  • Any opinions on whether to go for the Toshiba or the HP I5 posted earlier?

Also, can both of these be used as a desktop if required? We'd need to be able to connect a keyboard, monitor and mouse.

    Yes but with caveats

What inputs are available for the monitor ?

VGA, HDMI, DVI or Display port ?

If you are not sure then let us know the exact model of monitor, something like dell thingy or acer wotsit will not be helpful in tracking down the capabilities of your current monitor.

    Thanks for all the responses.

Mum's now decided she can cope with the screen on the laptop. Phew...

However we would still need to plug in the keyboard and the mouse. Might be a silly question but will that be possible with both these laptops?

She has arthritic fingers and needs a full size keyboard.

Yes as long as you use a usb keyboard and usb mouse.

    Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1NM £209.99

You can have it in white for £10 more

Chuck in a 4GB module of RAM for £14 to take it up to 2 x 4GB.
  • My advice is to avoid Medion. Unless you are an expert, you may get into trouble as this company is really poor about responding to requests for assistance - they never answer the phone, ignore letters, and seldom respond to emails.

    Hi Maureen43,

Just out of interest, which laptop did you end up going for? I need to get a replacement laptop and am trying to decide what to go for too.

Post #27 version in black for £199.99. Almost pays for the extra 4GB of RAM.
  • Anyone tell me the difference between a 15.6" laptop compared with same size but notebook?
