Kim, personally I think they will give you the choice of either (a) choosing another holiday and charging no admin fee to change it or (b) offering a full refund of your deposit. That's just what has happened to me with a holiday booked with First Choice that's been changed (flight change, not hotel). I can't see them letting you have a more expensive holiday without asking you to pay the difference.

Yeah, not trying to get something for nothing, but they were a similar price when I booked (but I was lured by the brand spanking new hotel:mad: ), they were a little bit more. I figured they were all the same class of hotel, but this one was a little cheaper on account of trying to build a reputation.

BUT I've just looked again, the prices were going up when I booked, which is why I booked so early, but they have shoot up more since.

They other two I like are just under 2K & just over 2K, I mean come on, we could go to the caribean for that sort of money:rolleyes: . Our was £1850, but we got £250 off, (made up of a £100 code & £150 online discount).

Just to add I'm actually REALLY gutted about it. I was so looking forward to it.
October/November is too late to leave it till.

Got a letter this morning from Thomsons confirming that we are not going there.

They offered us the (cheaper) Jaz Mirabel Beach. This has NO a la carte restaurants, mini-bar is extra, NO sea-view rooms left (I had paid a lot extra for a full seaview room, the best upgrade) & not great reviews either on trip adviser.
Worst of all, the sea around it is susposed to be not great for swimming & the Louis Tiran Sharm, had its own coral reef!!!
If I had wanted this place, I would have booked it.

At least Thomsons have come clean and given you the information in plenty of time. Doesn't sound like the alternative will be suitable for you. Perhaps you can find something more suitable for now and save the original hotel for next time.

Hopefully they offered you a full refund of your deposit if you don't want to change to something different and no admin charge for the change if you do!

I may sound cynical, but did Thomson give me the info because its on the internet:rolleyes:
They didn't "offer" me the Jaz Mirabel Beach, they told me they have changed my booking to the Jaz Mirabel Beach:mad:
Damn cheek, all that money for a lucky dip holiday:rolleyes:
They haven't offered me a return of my deposit, but surely they must? I've already lost out, because prices have risen since I booked. But even though they have risen, the Jaz Mirabel is STILL cheaper now than mine was when I booked, just shows what a con they are trying to pull. No offer of a price reduction, for wanting to send me on a cheaper holiday:mad:

    I may sound cynical,

Join the club, I'm getting more cynical by the day!

I would have thought that somewhere in their T&Cs it must say something about this type of thing. I would have thought that they must offer you the choice of a change to a holiday of your choice or a refund, not just put you somewhere else without consulting you.

If it was me and I didn't want to go to this new place then I'd find somewhere I did want to go and insist they sent me there or tell them there's nothing else you want and demand a refund of your deposit.

    5 minutes later...........

    Just checked their website http://www.thomsonbeach.co.uk/th/beach/viewTermsAndConditions.do?brochureId=TH44#6
    and found this

    Major changes to your holiday
Occasionally, we have to make major changes to the flight or accommodation making up your holiday with us. If we tell you about any of these changes after we have confirmed your holiday booking, you may either:
    - accept the new arrangements offered by us; or
    - accept a replacement holiday from us of equivalent or closely similar standard and price, if one is available; or
    - cancel your holiday with us and receive a full refund of all monies paid.

So there you are Kim, looks like you can get a refund if you want one. Go for it.

Oh, BTW, the Louis Tiran Sharm is ALSO a premier hotel in the First Choice brochure, I'm pretty sure the Jaz Mirabel isn't, so again its not like for like.
While I'm sure the Jaz Mirabel is susposed to be a really good hotel, its not an all singing all dancing with bells on like the Louis Tiran Sharm will be.
My OTHER two options when I was booking was the Reef Oasis Blue Bay & Club Magic Life, my reasons for NOT booking either of these were, the Reef Oasis doesn't have sea view rooms & Club Magic Life I was worried would be a bit Butlinsey & we are a couple aged 40.

Anyone offer any advice on these before I ring Thomsons?

They've said I can have the Reef Oasis Blue Bay for the same price if I want.
However they won't refund my sea-view costs (which I can't remember if it was £121 for both or EACH!). BUT I can't have a sea-view in the ROBB, because they don't have them. But they will still charge me.
Opinions on this option gratefully recieved.

What is the difference in the price of a holiday at the Reef Oasis and the original one? If they both cost the same have a full refund on the original holiday booked - you are entitled to it. You will get every penny back. Then make a new booking for the Reef Oasis.

If the Reef Oasis costs more then maybe that's why they're not refunding the sea view cost. Perhaps it covers the extra cost for the Reef Oasis.
