This is in Nabq Bay not Naama bay..

Area is mainly high class 4/5* beach front hotels most are All Inc - as not sure there are any other food outlets without a trip into Naama bay
Yep I know, maybe its just us then but we almost always make the trip into town in the evening when we don't stay in Naama: taxis are cheap and plentiful (especially if you learn a few words of arabic so they're less likely to try to rip you off *lol*)

I would rather pay the extra now for a good AI that the food was really good in & perhaps had an a la carte option, that have to travel every evening into a resort centre to find a restaurant. We are not drinkers, so we sunbath till it drops then get ready slowly, then late dinner & then a drink in the bar & an early night. We are quite boring, but we are early up (putting the towels out with the Germans LOL) & early to bed.

That whole resort centre thing is not us. However we do like to go on trips & excursions & wander about markets & shops.

We do eat out, but its when we hear of REALLY nice places, rather than standard fayre.

    Thanks

Do you really think the budget i've set won't get me a 5* AI on the beach with a sea-view! I though it was a very healthy budget. If you go on Portland you could get a 4* for 2 for 1K ish.
Not what I'm saying, but maybe I didn't phrase it right. What I meant was that if you have certain requirements and aren't flexible that you may be disapointed as many tour operators have a "get out" clause that things like sea view/beach front are subject to demand or not guaranteed. You've implied that your budget isn't limitless and usually the only way to absolutely guarantee things is to pay through the nose for them. I may be being totally pessimistic here - I don't mean to be, but equally I think that all eventuallities need to be considered

Personally, if I was looking to spend that much on a holiday to Egypt I'd do a Nile Cruise plus a week on the coast. Or if two weeks of sun and sand in Sharm is really where you want to go then I'd pay a bit less for one of the 4* hotels - which in my experience offer fantastic service and facilities. I don't think that you get enough extra for your money when you're thinking about going up from 4* to 5*. But that's just my opinion ;)

Considering the uncertainty about whether the hotel will be finished, maybe you could book now, make sure you're well insured and have a back-up plan already in place.

Re seaview, thats why I like to pay for it as an upgrade rather than ask & hope, LOL. Budget certainly not limitless, lol.

No, don't fancy the nile cruise, not a great boat lover. We will go to Cairo (I've been there, but hubby hasn't) for the day.
I like to book 5 star to make sure the food is good.
BUT if anyone knows a hotel in the Red Sea area with great food & very clean & on the beach, please tell me, LOL.

but we are early up (putting the towels out with the Germans LOL)

a tip to the pool guy on first day will usually guarantee you a reserved bed in your favoured spot.

    In Naqb Bay

I stayed at Baron Palms (AI) last year .. the main Baron Hotel (usual BB or HB I belive) looks good, as does the Conrad next door , although in this area I would guess they are all fairly good.

Nice beach with jetties into the sea

I've seen the Baron Palms on the web & it looks really nice, as does the Reef Oasis Blue Bay & Club Magic Life Sharm.

The more I look the more confused I get:o :o

UPDATE, just looked on the Louis web site & they have this message...

    Due to open October/November 2008
Based on the decision to construct additional facilities at the hotel which include the creation of swim up rooms, as well as rooms with private pools, a very extensive and unique spa center, a club room and additional sport facilities, the Louis Tiran Sharm is due to open in October/November 2008.

When were Thompson going to tell me, that the holiday I had booked for June, wasn't going to happen!!!!!!

Probably a couple of weeks before you're due to fly out, or maybe even when you get there!

Last year we booked to go to a hotel and meet up with friends who we see there regularly, we all go to the same place most years. Cosmos didn't bother telling anyone in advance that the hotel was closed for refurbishment. On arrival at the airport, some people were sent to other hotels and some were sent to neighbouring apartments belonging to the original hotel. Those that went to the apartments, the lucky ones were given a £20 per head bar credit (for a month), some were upgraded from half board to full board, some were given nothing. All the activities and entertainment usually available were virtually non-existent. Instead of there being the usual two or three hundred people there was about twenty or thirty. We made the most of it and enjoyed ourselves despite it not being what we originally booked.

We filled in a Customer Comment Form before we left (because we knew that's what you had to do if you had a problem) and when we got home followed it up and negotiated a partial refund (cash - we refused the voucher) with the holiday company. Most of the others didn't know about this and the rep didn't tell them they could write to the company to express their disappointment.

So if my above experience is anything to go by, you'll probably fly out and be told when you go to get your transfer coach.

Sorry...........I'm getting so cynical in my old age  .

At least i KNOW its not going to be built.
When I was thinking about booking it & voiced my concerns the travel agent said "Oh no Madam, if a 5 star hotel says it will be built, then it will be built".

So do I get my deposit back or will I have to fight them for it (I mean will they want to offset it against another of their holidays). There are only 2 others in their book I like, both cost more. Are they likely to give me one of those to keep my booking or just refund my deposit (£100)?
