Judging by all the stories, I seem to be in a minority when it comes to being able to cancel Sky with no issues at all!0

When cancelling any service, tell them you may be laid off in the next two months, they rarely try and just cancel.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
Didn't put up as much fight this year to keep me as they did last year -and the retention offer came very early in the exchange!0

It took me 5 minutes to cancel Sky on Wednesday. I phoned at 8.30am, which may have helped and I told the agent that I only watch terrestrial channels 1,2,3 and 4 (5 if I'm feeling daring).
It isn't too far from the truth - I often can't find anything to watch on the other channels.
Within an hour there was a 50% off offer on my sky account. I'm ignoring it. I'm switching to Freesat.0 -
We cancelled with no trouble whatsoever.
we were hardly watching anything that wasn't on freeview. So we just told them that, said no to the offers, and remained firm when they tried to do the persuading to stay.
Took 10 minutes max - the trick is not to dither, and make them think you could be persuaded to stayEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I had no problem cancelling, but did have a chat as I wanted to sound out possible phone/broadband offers. I was offered 50% off tv for 10 months, there and then and have since been offered 50% for a year plus £50 credit,by email.0

Perhaps compliance is improving through concern that Ofcom are considering enforcing changes?
Ofcom opened an industry-wide "monitoring and enforcement programme into cancellation and termination arrangements" in June 2015:

They said that they might consequently "initiate separate investigations of named providers" and in August 2015 they opened an investigation in to Sky:

I tried to cancel or to get a better deal, I got cut off twice and the third time said I couldnt cancel as I'm in a contract, I told them I got a price increase letter which said I could leave, she asked me to read it out and went away to speak to a manager before agreeing I can leave, very unprofessional0
