switching mobile suppliers but staying on same network

hey, my disastrous contract with "themobileoutlet" is finally coming to an end!

So i've been looking for a new phone and have my heart set on the n95 and although i said to myself "whatever you do don't go with cashback again!!"..... well... um, i'm thinking of going for cashback! lol but this time either with mobiles2yourdoor(Phones4u) or e2save(Carphone Warehouse) and both of these seem to have a much better reputation, although still far from perfect (i've been reading up on them all night) and I will be on top of any cashback with recorded delivery and everything.... well anyway all of that was a bit off topic really because what i'm really wondering is how do I go about keeping my mobile number with orange when i switch to my new phone (also on orange) because its going to be the new phone supplier putting in the order with orange getting a whole new contract, do I request my PUC code and then ask them to change my new number back to my old number.... i'm confuddled! thanks in advance!

Andy.

If you are happy with Orange, then go with them direct. It's always less hassle than going through a third party

  • ah, that was my initial plan, but this way is so much cheaper! its a £35 a month plan and with cashback it will either work out at either £23.33 with mobiles2yourdoor, or £24.67 with e2save, then even if it dosent work out with the cashback I am still only paying the £35 I would be with orange anyway. I'm just wondering how I go about keeping the same network when changing phone suppliers :)

you can't stay with Orange if you are already with them. A PAC code only works to take your number to a different network - sorry. If you want a new cashback deal you will have to move your number to a different network.
Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...

oh ok, thanks.... well i guess i could just get a new number and stay with orange that way... although the problem is letting everybody know :p ... you know the kind of people you need to have your number but don't really want to get in contact with lol... is it OK if 2 different contracts with orange overlap or shall i just wait till the disconnection date and get my new phone then?

    thanks

If you are not in too much of a hurry to get hold of your new phone, you could always request a PAC from orange and transfer the number to one of the free PAYG sim cards on a different network. Once your number has been transferred on to the PAYG, you can order your new phone with on Orange and give them the PAC from the PAYG :D Its a bit long winded and will take a few weeks but it depends on how much you want to keep your number!

    Anyway, hths a bit

What Orange plan are you currently on at the moment, I've just recently upgraded directly with Orange for £15 a month I get 700 xnet mins, 100 texts, unlimited landline calls and a Nokia 6300 handset on an 18 month contract. It's basically the Racoon 35 with a £20.00 discount.

I know you cant port a contract to contract on the same network but what if you are on a payg and want to take out a contract through a seller?

What you will be best doing is getting pac number and going onto payg, the transfer usualy takes a week. I done it with o2, went from contract to payg back onto a contract with any problems

    Andy.

I bought my mobile (with Orange) through another subsidiary of Carphone warehouse and they have also bnot coughed up. I;ve given up. Maybe you would succeed if you are obsessive about pursuing your cashback, but I;ve given up - the whole thing was a rip-off :-(
