Its a good thing that the OP didn't notice that the ink cartridges are probably only half full of ink, and the cost of a couple of refills is more than what was paid for the printer in the first place. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

The manufacturer of the product is the one who either includes or excludes a cable. The reseller could add one if it wanted to.
Nearly all vendors do this.
Granted it IS a bit outrageous but its the way big companies have decided to work. !?!
When you start looking into the home IT arena you realise that alot of things arent what you expect. I.e when buying a new PC you dont automatically get word processor (notepad yes) you dont automatically get broadband cable etc (even though it says internet ready on the box).
To sell a product in the IT arena to cater for the newbie purchasers takes alot of work. Hence the likes of Compaq and HP sell through vendors, as did the mighty Dell once. The vendors do all the 'techy to joepublic speak'.
It is/was similar with mobile phones ONCE. You never recieved a SIM card when you brought a new contractless mobile phone. Even when your brought directly from a network provider!

That article critisises Staples for not mentioning a USB cable was needed to make the printer functional , but it doesnt say they were overcharging people for leads (although 1 customer seems to think they were)0 -
