Have RYANAIR cancelled your winter booking but not told you yet?

Well here we are again ... Ryanair have been slashing and burning through existing bookings again. I am getting sick of this. I would dearly love to see them get some serious legal grief for their completely cavalier attitude.

Less than a month after they caused us stress and extra expense, and caused us to go cap in hand to bosses about changing holiday, they have now changed the SAME booking that was basically consolidation of evening flights into early morning flights by some hours into afternoon flights which means that yet another day's holiday from work is required to fit in with our already modified plans.

One change is bad enough, but by making the second change Ryanair is seriously messing with our lives.

They even have the gall to call it "1st notification of a change" because of course they hadn't had the courtesy to tell us about the first one when we discovered it whilst booking other flights.

I could easily ring someone's neck at this point (yes and I do have a candidate in mind!).

Edit 25th September 2007: Would you bloody well believe it? After going cap in hand to bosses to get holiday changes agreed for the second time, and then spending far too much time on the phone to them today at the ridiculously overpriced Customer Services telephone rate, we discovered that just an hour or two previously today, they decided (today) to change the bloody schedule back again, so lo and behold, that means that by this evening the flight times had been changed for the third time!!! ... Ryanair you are complete amateurs!!

Today in respect of yet another flight this time in mid November, I received another flight change reversion (i.e. the first change actually notified a few weeks ago has been reversed). When I saw it, I couldn't help wondering if this was a new tactic by Ryanair to shake down its bookings on some routes where it has removed some daily flights and found that you can't fit two planeloads of cornflakes into one plane on some days :p

So what they do is scare some cornflakes into booking alternative flights and then the cornflakes that are only mildly shaken and haven't got crushed in any rush for new seats actually find that they DO fit afterall into the plane on their original booking...

Nah...actually I reckon it's just someone at Ryanair having a bad week I think with their spreadsheets...

Because no sooner had I received and digested the email received mid afternoon, I got another one only an hour later about the same flight:rotfl:

The first one was labelled "1st Notification of a change in departure/arrival time of your flight" ... except of course it was the 1st notification of a 2nd change actually, which effectively changed the flight back to what it was originally, which of course meant there was no change at all. So that's all right then? So what about the 2nd mail (today)?

You guessed it the 2nd email I got this evening was labelled "2nd Notification of a change in departure/arrival time of your flight" but actually it was the 3rd notification, but in all other respects it was no different to the 1st which was actually the 2nd (if you see what I mean?) Confused? Yes you probably will be if you've booked to fly with Ryanair this winter :T

Sounds as if they've got far too many seats & far too few passengers to fill them - plus they still have to pay Boeing for all those nice shiny planes they bought from them

Are they going to be become the airline version of Northern Rock?

Have they detected 'interesting' patterns in your bookings Peter and are having a little game with you?

Airline computer software is clever stuff and designed to spot customers making 'interesting' bookings that may affect the airline maximising revenues from its flights, wouldn't be surprised if ryanair are using it.

Well Richard, I don't think they'll find much very interesting about mine! To be honest, the way Ryanair have been playing around with the winter schedule, the planning department looks more like a one man and his dog operation with little time to indulge in intelligent stuff:p .

    Peter,

Have you considered starting a PeterBaker Ryanair Blog? It would make for fantastic entertainment / reading, and I guarantee you would have a huge audience from MSE alone!

All your previous snippets, pearls and gems get lost in old threads?

    I'd love it - seriously!
  • Nah I don't think it's all that, Sam ... it's all a bit depressing sometimes ... anyway I think some probably prefer that stuff habitually get's buried ... and I wouldn't want to have my head above the parapet all the time ... someone might mess with my bookings
