Monday 5th October - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending! :money:

Morning all
I feel a bit _pale_ this morning. It's been another long night... Never mind.
Full and busy day at work today so not much chance for anything else.
check banking and PAD
let dh do the housework
full day of teaching plus a meeting after school
book marking
check fpl and lucky phone
chase up my complaint with BT
I can't think of anything else...
I see I've cross posted with legomum. Sorry - perhaps someone could merge the threads?

Morning Campers,
What a dark, dank, soggy day! Yesterday, we sat without coats in gorgeous sunshine to eat our picnic. No dry days forecast here until Thursday, so that will give me a chance to prioritise indoor jobs. I'm intending to make this week count, with lots of different tasks, including money savng. This is today's list of the money saving bits:
*Laundry washed overnight on cheap tariff. All on heated airer but am not switching it on until bedtime as the night time tariff costs half the day time rate, so always worth waiting. Washer loaded for another Economy 7 wash tonight.
*Make piccalilli using the veg mixture I prepped & brined yesterday. Recycled jars from my stash, as always.
*Weigh out remaining small onions & put aside suffiicient for pickling. The ones I did last autumn lasted all year & a couple of people seemed to enjoy receiving a jar in their festive foodie hampers.
*Do triage of the pears. Despite our old pear tree not being as laden with pears as the past few years, we are still inundated. Will turn some of them into pear & cinnamon compote for topping my porridge & put some aside for jam.....probably pear & blackberry.
*Defrost soup & rolls for tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Make a list of ingredients required for Christmas baking, as I've started adding a couple of items to shopping lists between now & December to avoid a big budget-busting shop.
*No heating on. We did run the towel radiator overnight but it went off first thing, before the tariffs changed, & it retains heat for quite a while.
*Checked ebay listings - 3 watchers but I'm not too sure any of this last lot of items will sell. Still, I've said that before & been proved wrong, so I'll wait it out & re-list if necessary. Love decluttering.
*Checked online banking & skimmed £4-49 for a PAD into Car Fund.
*Finish library book, check library shelf & start a bag for returning items later this week.
*Knit some more jumper. It's not growing as quickly as I'd like......my fault entirely as not doing sufficient knitting! It keeps falling off the end of my list.
The rain is absolutely lashing down now. Cat glued to the sofa on his blanket.
Hope everyone manages a good start to the week. If not, just mentally re-start the week on Tuesday.
Dawn - Totally agree about the coffee. Running out of coffee would be classed as a medical emergency in our house.
OK, time to dive into my jar stash ready to make lovely things,
Take care all,
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Morning guys thanks to ccl for starting the thread.
Awww the lovely weekend is over and with it the lovely weather we had down here! Grey and overcast today with the weather forecast predicting rain
Small things to do today:
* check banking & do some fund shuffling to get straight
* photo & list a few things on fleabay
* all meals from stores
* dinner from meal plan
* decide on activity for dgd today. dd is coming for contact. Might go to the soft play for a couple of hours
* either do some work in the garden but if it's raining I will fill some holes/patches were plaster needs repairing
* email ms company about a couple of ms assignments for this week
* water tomato plants and pick ripe toms :j
* onepoll/surveys
Ok that's all I need to do today :T Happy Monday everyone xDF as at 30/12/16
Wombling 2026: £25.70
Grocery spend challenge Feb £285.11/£250

Extra cash earned 2026: £1850 -
Morning all!
Haven't read this weekends post yet so I hope you are all ok. I am shattered today as the dog was coughing all night like he had something stuck in his throat! Tried getting him to drink which he wouldn't so put him some food down at 3am which he loved but didn't solve the problem! Seems ok now though, so hopefully whatever was irritating him has gone.
Lodger is back from his travels but has decided to only stay at weekends as he has work elsewhere so will travel between. So less money from him but also less expense (gas, water etc) and more time having the house to just me, OH and the pooch!
It was my friends baby shower yesterday so I gave her the blanket. Tbh she didn't really react that much until someone told her I'd made it as clearly it was so well made (!) she thought it was shop bought! I've asked her to send me a pic as I don't actually have one so I'll post it on here if I can figure out how!
Today I have/will:-
* Check banks
* Quick tidy up
* Take lunch to work
* Text lodger and ask to take some bits out of freezer as forgot this morning
* Check energy statement as now only get them quarterly - £112 in credit so need to work out if I can get some refunded or may actually leave it in there to cover the winter
* Check wombled Asda receipts to see if worth anything using the price guarantee
* Catch up on weekends thread
* Update spreadsheet to reflect spends over weekend
* Write shopping list
* Go shopping on lunch break
* Dinner from stores
* Put all clothes away
* Tidy living room
* Package up 2 items which sold on eBay to post tomorrow
* Continue reading book I've got stuck into!
Think that's everything I can think of for now. Hope you all have a good day.Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

Hey guys,
Quick post before the onslaught of work begins.
Thanks to crazy_cat_lady for starting us off
ziggy, ally, ccl and any others who are having a tough time at the moment - big hugs all round
OH's nan still hanging in there. I just hope she can pull through! She's been getting SVT but they gave her some drugs to bring her heart rate back down and she's been battling pneumonia! Can't kill a scouse nan
Some weather here! Actually I quite like the windy weather. It's kind of exciting and invigorating. A bit of a spendy weekend I'm afraid but the necessary evils of train tickets etc. Also bought some bits for my friend who is having a baby in the new year. I downloaded a pattern for the most WONDERFUL crochet baby blanket. Used a bit of money in my paypal account that came from an ebay sale. Unfortunately the yarn will cost a fortune
EDIT: TWIGGY - what yarn did you use for the blanket please? Also keen for any other yarn recommendations from the knitters/crocheters here
Today's bits:- Charge phone in work - done
- Check online banking and reconcile spreadsheet - done
- Send OH money from the weekend
- Work hard (hopefully no overtime though)
- Speak to HR about hours. Going to possibly angle for a contract change. Feeling very brave!
- Wash mountain of green tomatoes in the kitchen ready for making chutney
- B/L/D from stores
- Ask OH to tidy the house a bit as he's at home all week
- Clean the oven before the oven man comes to fix it (hopefully this week!)
- Sure there's some more bits... just gotta think
- Apply for new savings account - done
- Arrange oven getting fixed

Hi CLF. Sorry I can't help as my mum ordered the wool for me and being a knitting/crocheting novice I just used it and didn't pay much attention to the wool. Hopefully someone else can be a bit more helpful than me!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

Good morning everyone, I couldn’t get to sleep last night and I have woken up full of the cold so I think I will be having a quiet day.
CCL – Thanks for starting the thread this morning.
My plan for today:
Check banking (still waiting on 1 invoice being paid)
Pay phone bill
Get a quick shower
Check voicemails and deal with anything urgent
Check FPL
Check luckyphone
Do washing for holiday let job
Do ironing for holiday let job
Check onepoll
Do some studying
Delete 50 emails (this will be a daily job, as over 4000 inbox atm)
Wait in for windscreen company, as I have a chip (hopefully it will be a free repair)
All meals from stores
Swagbucks
Do daily on JPJ, whilst avoiding the temptation to spend
I think that is enough to be working on today, Hope everyone has a good Monday x0
