    sorry if I came over a bit strong saying about checking the PSU, but it is something I've learned by hard experience to check (and know several people who have ended up out of pocket and without a card for several weeks because of what turned out to be PSU issues).
    I'm fairly fortunate in that I tend to have a spare PC (and access to more) to do extensive testing with ease when needed, so my default is always to test the PSU with anything that looks like it could be power related (and often you don't discover a power issue until you add a drive, or swap a videocard out for one that users more power).
