Just a thought, but do you know anyone else with a suitable PC you could test the card in?0

Not sure of the scratches on the back would have an effect on the card but someone on another site suggested that it could be bad memory on the card with showing lines like in the photo on boot up?0

Unfortunately I don't most people these days have laptops and tablets. Only my brother really and I don't want to rip out his sli cards testing this one in case it messes up his pc.
Motherboard is fine though it runs my 570 no problems
Well the card didn't damage your PC as I assume you have put the GTX 570 back in and all is OK. So the only way to be sure is to test it in your brother's PC or get it tested.
Not much else you can do really until you eliminate or confirm the card is at fault. The sooner you do it the better because if the card is faulty then the quicker you act in trying to get your money back from the seller the better.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
Yup, looks like you're down to an 'asap' conclusive test on the graphics card and return via ebay if it's faulty
Only other suggestion I have is to make sure all other PSU connections (particularly to the mother board) are securely in place and you didn't dislodge anything.
I'm curious how you installed the new drivers, so the new card was happy to display the windows desktop when you had no drivers for it to do the install then once you have the appropriate drivers it falls over at that point?0 -
Just bought a GTX 680 from a guy on ebay and installed the card today.
Seen that the card needs a 6 pin + a 8 pin connector
However my 850watt xanta power supply doesn't have 2 8 pins as the other is powering the Motherboard.
So I connected a 6 + 6+2 pin connector to power it that way. the card boots up to the motherboard boot logo and it has some distorted lines across the screen.
Once it gets to the log in screen the pc resets and the screen goes black.
Haven't been able to get passed this.
what do you guys think?
ok , test time , disconnect your drives , insert a windows boot disk let it run until you get to a colourfull screen and leave it there , lets see if its a heat issue, if all goes well , fit a spare drive and do a quick install of 7/8/10 or even xp , WITHOUT ADDITIONAL DRIVERS , and no passwords etc etc , let it crunch for a while and see if there are any lines on the monitor etc , THEN install the correct drivers0 -
Which Motherboard do you have and what BIOS version is it running?0

I hate to say it, but my guess would be on the PSU as much as the Card.
I've never even heard of the brand before (which would be unusual if it was a good/known brand*), and there are an awful lot of PSU's out there sold under various names that are pretty much junk (I've seen/heard of PSU's sold as 500 watt units that couldn't power a system a good 300watt unit was ok with).
Having done a quick google it looks like the brand were selling an 800 watt unit about 4-5 years ago for £55 - that would ring massive alarm belles with me, as at that point in time a good 550-600 often cost more (my 600watt supply bought 2 years ago cost nearly twice that!), and I've experienced issues with cheap PSU's in the past ranging from them not being able to power an additional HDD, to problems with the system when the videocard is under load (thus drawing more power).
If possible try the card in a machine with a different PSU, or try a different PSU in your system, a 680 needs a reasonable power supply, but any good 800 watt unit should be fine with (in a lot of cases you could probably run 2 such cards of a top spec 800 watt PSU).
*Every few months I seem to end up doing a specification for a machine for friends and I always do a trawl of reviews to try and find the best parts for the price.0 -

After resetting the pc a few times it let me boot into safe mode. I checked device manager and it was showing the card as 680 even though 570 drivers where installed. so I removed the driver that way refreshed and it was showing the card as just being generic. I then installed the new drivers and it picked it up as a 680 again.
I then reset the pc and let it go through the boot process still with distorted lines and the screen goes blank on the monitor about 4 seconds after it asks me to login to the pc0
