Vodafone / Mobile Phones Direct Credit Rejection
Hi,
Applied for a Vodafone SIM only contract through Mobile Phones Direct today, but I've just got an email saying "Unfortunately your credit request has been declined by Vodafone".
I was a bit surprised as I've had a contract phone since I was 18 (now 24), never missed a payment, got a mortgage, credit cards etc and am on the electoral roll - great credit history.
I really want a Vodafone contract as it's the only network that provides any signal at my home.
I've Googled it and it's been suggested that when applying through a dealer, if it's not approved the default response is "you failed the credit check" even if it's some kind of application glitch.
I've checked my credit report with Noddle and ClearScore and I can't see a Vodafone search on there at all. And I can't see anything adverse either.
So based on this, is there any point talking to Vodafone or Mobile Phones Direct to see if they can give any more information on the decision? Is it worth applying again, perhaps through another dealer?
The deal I was after is a 12 month SIM only contract, unlimited minutes / texts with 4GB data. £19.80 a month, £96 cashback via redemption = £11.80 a month effective. Another dealer offers the same but with less cashback so £14 a month effective.

I think mysterious rejections are a common place at MPD.
A recent thread: Mobile Phones Direct0 -
Did I not say "I think"?
BTW, I was one of two.
And it was the most recent thread. I recall other similar post(s?) about mysterious rejections.0 -
You might try for a Talkmobile contract if there's one suitable. The best cashback deals at present are through the same dealer on that network with some decent bundles - though haven't checked for the massive bundle you're after. Talkmobile uses the Vodafone network so would also fit.
As for rejections via this dealer, I have ordered three contracts in the last couple of months. All three took nearly a week to get approved (3 different people) but all arrived in due course. If they say it's a network rejection it's not down to them but would happen with any dealer (it's not in their interests to block a sale, although it would be in my case!!!). Some dealers have their own checks first. As for checking credit reference agencies, it may depend on checking whichever one Vodafone happens to use compared with which one you check.0 -

Thanks, but TalkMobile don't do tethering so there out.
I spoke to the dealer, and then Vodafone, who were suprisingly helpful.
They've advised that I was actually declined for credit - but I've provided credit reports to them as an appeal and they are going to get back to me.0 -

...they came back with a rejection again. Surprising.
GiffGaff it is, then...0 -
But Giffgaff are on O2. You said you needed a network that uses vodafone....
TalkTalk, Talkmobile, Sainsburys and Lebara are all on voda0 -

I probably should've been clearer - only O2 and Vodafone give my signal at home.
I need tethering, which rules out all the ones you've listed above.0
