Tesco Shoplifting - need help.

I think the problem is OP, you picked up the magazines, put them down to eat your meal, picked them up gain, put them down to have your pee, picked them up again then walked out with them. It would be more believable that you'd made a mistake if you'd picked them up just the once, tucked them under your arm, forgot they were there then walked out with them. As it is you made a conscious effort to pick them up and put them down 3 times and only forgot about them when it was time to pay.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

they can see from my cluncard account that I am a regular shopper who buys not only groceries but also high value items such as tv's........yes I am sure I am not important to them in the scheme of things..........but still it seems a bizarre way to treat a customer (albeit a forgetful one)
Dave
That's probably what worries them. They would look at your statement and think if you've paid for that much stuff how much have you nicked0 -
I just couldn't understand how the guard could "arrest" me as he put it.....and yes like a pub landlord they can ban me from their premises without explanation.
I honestly don't want to spend another penny with them........but I would like an apology - they can see from my cluncard account that I am a regular shopper who buys not only groceries but also high value items such as tv's........yes I am sure I am not important to them in the scheme of things..........but still it seems a bizarre way to treat a customer (albeit a forgetful one)
Anyone can make a 'citizens arrest':

Shoplifting is an indictable offence.
As to a 'bizarre way to treat a customer'; are shoplifters 'customers' or are they opportunistic criminals?
You stole something (as in took the magazine without paying) and were then, after investigation by a PC, allowed to leave.
You need to move on with your life and make sure you take steps not to become a serial offender... seriously, if you cannot trust yourself then get a carer.:hello:0 -

I disagree. I think the best advice is to start ordering on line and getting home deliveries. No chance of you forgetting to pay for something again. If you were to have a further innocent memory lapse, you may find the Police might not be so lenient a second time.0 -
It might be worth checking the status of your Clubcard - give their helpline no a call, give your name & postcode, and ask about the status of the card. If it is live with no problems - you'll get your vouchers as per normal in the next mailing. It may say 'banned' in which you won't, though the points will remain.
Depends how many points you had and how important they were to you, and any alternative Tesco Stores in your area.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -

Just for the record shoplifting is no longer always an indictable offence.
The Anti Social Behaviour-Crime and Policing Act 2014 introduced an new offence of low level shoplifting for items under£200.
This crime is now dealt as a summary offence, but can also be treated as an either way offence if the defendant so elects.0 -
I feel for you, I once accidentally stole 1 shoe while I was out shopping, I stuck it under my arm while I was browsing, to carry my bag and was half way along the street when I realised!
I took it back, felt like a bit of an idiot but luckily the shop seen the funny side.
I don't think there is much you can do other than possibly make a complaint about the stories they made up to the police but I doubt you will get very far.
Hope you can get over it and there are plenty more supermarkets in your area.LBM: 09/12/2008
