Now you're backtracking and saying its "possible" not that they "didn't" review the evidence.
I have no problem with that statement. The problem I have is you making up facts that we don't know are true.
The evidence is not just the cctv , you've got that wrong.
The contract guard is supposed to call a manager and " relate the facts" to him in front of the accused person .
That is initially how they didn't " review the evidence " to quote you..0 -
I am really questioning why you think you would be treated differently if you were wearing a suit rather than casual clothes?
Do you judge on appearance?0 -

I am suggesting that there was some "profiling" going on.
I believe this to be the case because of the "sniggering" when I mentioned I owned my own company and also the look on their faces when I produced over £400 in cash.
I learnt a valuable lesson when I was in my teens.......
I used to work for a High St Jewellers - 5 minutes before closing time one xmas eve a very scruffy and unkempt customer came into the shop and asked to see a tray of rings from the window - the most expensive tray there was.......I obliged but put other staff on alert that I thought a snatch may be about to occur - in those days you would ask a colleague for till roll for till 9 - this was code for "man the doors"
I decided not to present the whole tray to the customer but ask him which rings he was interested in - he said there was a couple and he would like to see the full tray........so I hooked it at the back to the counter and showed him.
He looked at a couple - chose one - price was £2999.99 - and pulled out a wad of cash to pay for it !
He explained he had been saving all year (he was a builder) and needed his xmas bonus to have enough money to be able to afford it............lesson learnt by 1 spotty teenager (ie me -) - don't judge a book by its cover........
Does that answer your question if I judge on appearance.

So you now agree that tesco did review the evidence (but initially they didn't). Are you now just arguing for the sake of it?
Also only the OP was there but I thought he said the contract guard did relate the facts to a person of authority in tesco as the OP disagreed with these facts and asked the CCTV to be reviewed to prove his version of events.0 -

I agree with this. The way you dress in shops determines how people treat you when incidents like this happen. If you had been smartly dressed they never would have taken it this far.
It's unfair but then that is life!0 -
I don't doubt the op's claim that stealing was not the intent. However, I would never leave the shop area to go to the instore cafe without paying for the goods.
You either go to the cafe before or after shopping, not during!
I would imagine the security staff see the usage of the cafe during shopping to be a much used method of stealing.
So don't leave the shopping area until you've paid. Simple as that. That way, you'll never have this situation.0 -

Ok let me explain it very simply..........
The contract guard related the facts to the Policeman - NOT a Tesco Manager...........is that so hard to understand ?

In an ideal world I would agree........but I felt unwell, light headed and had a very serious concern of passing out and collapsing (yes I've done it a few times before and its very very embarassing) - so my only thought was to get some food to hopefully prevent this.
Like I said - I don't live in a "perfect world" - I had to immediately make a judgement call.

Just out of interest why are you posting on a forum? How is this going to help? Surely you should seek more professional help rather than posting on here? What ere you expecting from here (to help you) rather than just posting in an attempted to shame Tesco?
Initially it was out of frustration and hopefully to get some advice - having never been in a situation like this before.
That is what forums are for isn't it ?
It helps to see "both" sides of a situation rather than just mine - it helps me come to an informed decision.
What makes you think I haven't or will not be taking professional advice on this matter ?

So when this happened there was no person of authority from tesco in the room? It was just you, the police officer and the contract guard?0
