Why not use a backpack or sports bag? it makes me feel good to not take plastic bags, like I'm helping save the planet to be green..
To use as bin bags? That's going to be expensiveGood for you with your stash.. just reuse the bags rather than throw them away each time.. that is what the government is clamping down on, to make people keep the bags and reuse them.
My stash is cheap carrier bags to use... as bin bagsand for a few other things, like putting muddy hiking shoes in the boot of the car, where plastic is far more suitable (but I might get a "bag for life" for that just to see their faces when I bring it back to swap for a new one :rotfl: )
I've always kept and reused plastic bags, be it supermarket carrier type or the larger ones from other shops. Handy for a whole bunch of stuff. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, it's the ludicrous amount of plastic packaging around everything that would need to be tackled - that definitely can't be reused for anything. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
...and if anyone needs carriers to reuse as bin liners

You can get 20% off these too if your basket total is £20 or more and order before 10pm tonight :TI Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -
I went to Cash Converters to buy a £1 DVD (rare luxury), to my shock the guy put it on a cash converters bag that you put around your shoulder.. atleast it's reusable. :T0

You're not really following the arguments, are you?
Still it's just the sort of empty feelgood sentiment that the cynical gesture politics crowd hope for.0 -
The thing that annoys me about the whole thing is the shops that are now charging for bags that they arnt supposed to, because "its the law", my daughter works in a shop which have always given away bags which were equivalent to bags for life and are deffinatly above the 50micron cut off point.
People pay the 5p and expect it to go to charity but it does not.WWSD(what would Scooby Doo)0 -

Surely the law is that any shop is permitted to charge for any bag it wants to? So it is not that a shop is supposed not to charge for bags above a defined thickness. At least charging for every bag keeps things simple.0 -
I LOL at the people who think shops shouldn't be charging for this bag or that bag because it is thicker or it has a logo on etc....
Shops can charge for bags if they want, same way as they charge for a tin of baked beans.
Aldi/Lidl already charged differing amounts for different thickness bags long before the 'law'. As did Kwiksave & Netto back in the days.
I worked in Kwiksave nearly 15 years I ago and I can remember having the same arguments over paying for bags with the same customers every week.0 -
The 5p charge should be going to charity, but is it?I Hate Jobsworths!!!0

Absolutely. I've washed the bag I had the chicken in, but I doubt many people will bother; plus it it's going to be a PITA to do every time.
I'll have to remember to bring one of my bought-from-ebay-single-use-carrier-bag when I want to buy meat so that the bag then just goes as bin liner afterwards, less hassle than washing stuff
I turn the bag inside out, get one clean sheet of kitchen towel, wet it with a bit of WUL. Then spray with anti bacterial spray, wipe off with a clean sheet of paper towel. Then hung the bag on those clippy trouser hangers in airing cupboard to finish off drying and its dry after an hour. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Only on the <70 micron bags that they previously gave away for free before the bag charge law.
I doubt the EPOS knows if they charged you 5p for a meat bag and 5p for a non-meat bag. It will just see 2x5p bags sold and add to the charity total accordingly.
They don't have to give it to charity if the bag is >70 micron and therefore will have a different barcode/button on the EPOS.0
