Some meats, beef particularly, are not fit to eat when freshly slaughtered. Beef should be hung for a minimum of two weeks, but a good steak will be cut from meat aged for at least 4 weeks.
Once cut, that steak will have a shelf life of 2 or 3 days if it is exposed to air. But if it's vacuum packed and hermetically sealed, the shelf life will be extended to ten days.0 -

10 days? Everyday is a school day, I must say though the thought of a steak being kept that long in an artificial atmosphere doesn't do anything for me.0 -

I picked up a bag of reduced fruit yesterday which was covered in sticky stuff so I put it in one of the little bags. When I got to check out the lady who served me said that I could not have it or she would have to charge me 5p. I did not want the sticky stuff over my other shopping so asked if I could take the fruit out of the sealed bag and put it in the loose bag. Her answer was no so I said I did not want the fruit as it would make everything else sticky.I Hate Jobsworths!!!0

If it is vacuum packed all the air will be sucked out so it is no atmosphere really!
Most non-vacuum packed items are"packed in a protective atmosphere". This usually means the packaging is full of nitrogen, so there is no oxygen that can cause it to spoil.0 -
I was in M&S (foodhall) this morning and they have signs at the tills with pictures & stating how much each carrier is. They all cost money but the bakery and fruit/veg ones were free.I Hate Jobsworths!!!0

Cheap sods complaining about the 5p bag charge.. buy those black bags or get a backpack.. simples.0

The charge is supposed to be there so that fewer plastic bags are used. I have to buy bin bags instead of using the until-now-free carrier bags, how exactly do I use less plastic? Still, I now have my stash from ebay...Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0

Why not use a backpack or sports bag? it makes me feel good to not take plastic bags, like I'm helping save the planet to be green..
Good for you with your stash.. just reuse the bags rather than throw them away each time.. that is what the government is clamping down on, to make people keep the bags and reuse them.0
