The wii wins hands down over the ps3, played formula one type game on ps3 in toys r us, i thought i was playing a ps1 game it was so pathetic. Wii is much more fun, but if you want state of the art graphics and you have a state of the art tele, and plenty of cash to waste, then consider a ps3.

I have a Wii and to be honest i got fed up with it in a couple of weeks. My gf and her daughter still play it sometimes but i much prefer my PS3.
I agree with Idiophreak that serious gamers will prefer the 360 or PS3 however for family fun or introducing new people to consoles, the Wii is perfect.

I owned a Wii for a little over 12 hours (A handy bit of money saving - Capitalise on stock shortages using eBay, I managed to double up!). I would like to buy one for myself, but I won't until there are a range of decent games out there. As it stands, there are not a massive number of great single player games out. The best ones are Zelda and Trauma Centre. But as a party console, its awsome, and will only get better when Smash Bros comes out.
I am tempted to get it in the meantime just so I can play some of the back catalogue of Gamecube games, since I never bought one of those.

As a slight aside, I've been looking at the release schedule on the consoles building up to christmas (or should that be "the holiday season" :))

Wii has a bunch of titles coming I'm looking forward to:
Super Paper Mario, MySims, Smash Bros, Super Mario Galaxy, Table Tennis (if it's anywhere near as good as the 360 version, it'll be awesome), Guitar Hero 3, Rayman: rabbids 2

Seems like some good titles, might even things out with the other two consoles a little...but then you look at the 360 lineup over the same period:

Stranglehold, Skate, NHL08, Halo 3, Sega Rally, Mercenaries 2, Virtua Fighter 5, Half Life: Orange Box, PGR4, (also some strange new spiderman game...hit or miss, I guess), pro evo 2008, fable 2, guitar hero 3, Area 51, COD4, Tony Hawks, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, Army of Two, Turok, Golden Axe...

Really think that the coming months on the 360 (and, I guess, PS3 - a lot of the above will be on both) should give the wii a bit of a battering.

That said, I know that most of the games I'm excited about on the 360 are very much "gamers games" so probably don't have the mass appeal as the wii stuff (which, I suppose, is the point..)

  • I read somewhere the other day that the big game companies didn't expect the wii to be anywhere near as popular as it's turned out to be and have been caught on the hop. They are now turning their attention to it and are expected to start churning out some serious games for it in the future. I bought one last year at xmas and although it's only brought out for tennis when a few drinks are taken it's always good fun. Got tiger woods the other day off a mate as he was about to trade it in for Farcry but haven't had a chance to try it yet.
