If you are receiving unwanted messages from a mobile shortcode, the correct response is to send the STOP message. Do not attempt to block incoming chargeable messages with an app as you will still be charged for them.

As I said in Post 7 I am not being charged for receiving these messages.

The message tells me to send the STOP reply to 82228 but I can't tell where the incoming message is coming from as it only displays their name rather than their number.

Which handset do you own? It might be possible to block the sender that way.

    It's an LG G3.

If a name is displayed (and it is not a name that is already in your SIM or handset contacts list) then the message is coming from a mobile shortcode rather than from an ordinary 07 mobile number.

Send the STOP message to end further contact. This will cost less than 20p. The charge is made by your mobile provider for sending a text. No part of the charge is to the benefit of the service provider (the message recipient).

No they're not in my contacts.

STOP message sent. I shall see if there is a cost which I may well ask Tesco Mobile to refund as I was specifically told yesterday that there would be no cost.

Easy on android, open up the messages long hold the one you want to block, then add to spam numbers.

This may be the correct response for unwanted messages coming from 07 mobile numbers.

It is not the right thing to do for messages coming from mobile shortcodes.

Perhaps it depends on whether or not you were being charged for receiving the messages.

I have neither been charged for receiving nor sending the STOP message so I can only conclude it was not a premium rate short code number.

The correct way for a mobile shortcode is to send the STOP message.

If you simply block messages coming from a mobile shortcode and they are chargeable, you won't see the message but you will still be charged for it.

It's not Android specific - it's phone specific.

My friend has a Moto G and does not have the ability to block numbers. She needs MrNumber to do so.
