I've started to get advertising texts from the company I've just bought a sofa from. I don't want the texts but want to check the cost implication of texting STOP to 82228 before doing so.

Is this just the normal cost of a text - ie included in normal text bundle - or is it extra?

It will be somewhere between 1p and 20p, depending on which mobile network you use.

It will not be inclusive in your allowance.

    It's Tesco Mobile.

Really shouldn't be paying to stop something I never requested in the first place.

    Inclusive allowances include
    • UK geographic numbers starting 01 and 02 (excluding numbers in Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man)
    • non-geographic numbers starting 03
    • UK mobile numbers starting 071-075 and 077-079 (excluding numbers in Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man).

Probably less than the cost of a stamp to write to them to take your name off.

I asked Tesco Mobile. They say that it will come out of my Inclusive texts and that texting STOP doesn't cost anything. Not sure if I believe that to be honest.

I am not being charged for receiving the texts so it doesn't seem to be premium rate texts.
  • If you text STOP then they know your number is a 'live' number..........
And will probably either continue sending you texts AND flog your number on to others !!

I daresay they already know it's live as it's the contact number for my new suite delivery.

I will probably wait until the suite is delivered and then block the number.

If you are receiving unwanted messages from a mobile shortcode, the correct response is to send the STOP message. Do not attempt to block incoming chargeable messages with an app as you will still be charged for them.

If you are receiving unwanted messages from an 07 mobile number you should never reply. In these cases, you can use an app to block reception of further incoming messages.

Which handset do you own? It might be possible to block the sender that way.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.
