If the line is taged for broadband that may be why it can't be changed.

Tags is a whole different ball game & only come into effect if a line is activated. As this line isnt then tags doesnt come into it! (you're only confusing more :p)

    Ok..

I understand about the MAC so your saying once my phone line is activated, Ill have to wait another five days for the ADSL to sorted on the line then I can recieve a MAC code for me to order sky broadband. Correct ?

Am going to ring the complaints department when I get in from work and will report back with my findings tomoz. Seems like its going to be another long long wait on the phone again !

    Thanxs for the help

MACs are used to transfer broadband ALREADY on a line between providers.

As you have NO BROADBAND on the line, a MAC doesnt come into the equation.

Ok? So just throw the MAC idea out of your head.

Heres what you need to do:

Once your line is installed & activated ring Sky & order broadband with them.

5 working days later you'll have Skys service on the line.

    Hope this finally helps! :)

Good times again with the fact there was a dial tone but could not obviously ring out at all (bad times !).

Well I for one am confused, if it has a dial tone it can't be a new install just a reactivation. But that could also mean there could be tags on the line from the old customer and it's stoping the line from being changed.

    Note:
I am trying to find the person who changed my signature.
    Please PM me.

No you cant order it online because you havent taken over the phone line over. Until that service is activated in your name you legally cant order broadband on it.

Just ignore the term MAC, its confusing you too much. Just follow my steps above & you'll be sorted :)

He hasnt had the line put into his name yet, so on the systems it'll just be shown as a stopped line at the property or one thats currently being started up in the OP's name. This isnt a tag.
  • If you go to www.samknows.com and put your number in the Availability Checker it will tell you whether there is already ADSL service on the line.

If there isn't, it should all be straightforward. If there is (from the previous tenant) it can get messy as you will have to get the old ADSL service removed first.

I have just put my home number in samknows and well it says

"Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.

The following services are available in your location:

lg_green.gifBT Wholesale ADSLlg_green.gifBT Wholesale ADSL Maxlg_orange.gifVirgin Media (Cable) may be availablelg_orange.gif21CN PSTN migration due Jul-Sep 2010

Please select the options on the left for more information about broadband availability at your location."

    so whats that mean ?

It means your can recieve broadband on that telephone number
  • If it doesn't say

However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection

then there is no ADSL service on the line at the moment so at least you won't have the complication of getting that ceased before you can order your own broadband service.
