BT Stopped Service + Security Deposit !

Options
Hi,

Been a while since been on here but recently moved into a flat with the girlfriend and there was a BT Socket already in the flat (good times, no £125 connection cost !).

Good times again with the fact there was a dial tone but could not obviously ring out at all (bad times !). Ive rang up BT on numerous occasions and all they do is pass the buck. The one guy i spoke too told me my order number and my new phone number and took a £50 security deposit of me via check and told me the line would be activated on thursday 9th of augest.

Now after numerous phone calls to BT and the fact they have cleared the £50 check, we still have no phone line so therefore I cannot get no internet (as there is no phone line there is no MAC).

Now am fed up of this and fed up of BT this is fraud that fact they have taken the money and not provided the goods and everytime I ring up they just say "it will be activated in 2 days" and it just is not !!

Can any one give me any advice at all ?....

Oh forgot to mention "Sorry for the delay but all are operators are busy at the moment, please wait" and a hour later still the same women telling me the same stupid thing !

I hope some one can help me !

Daz

Sounds like you are on the new system as lot's of others have had problems.

I am sure someone will post a number for you to call or you could do a search on here as I am sure it's alreday been posted.

If I find it first I will post it here for you.

Yeah I looked too and I know what I was looking for and could not find it.

The new system is called WLR3.

I just phoned BT on 100 option 4 (operator)

They have ex directory numbers for the WLR3 team and would put you through, they would not give me the number.

Ok Daz, just to clear it up. A MAC is an access code which can be used to transfer ADSL broadband between different providers. As you have no broadband on the line, MAC's don't even come into play.

BT's only obligation is to provide a telephone service, broadband is always subject to availabilty etc.

Unfortunately its not fraud as they will deliver your service to you (and not run off with your money), all i can assume is that your activation is delayed, maybe a system issue or a case of an engineer not being scheduled on time, but contacting them will be of more benefit to you in terms of finding out

    Give 0800 555 257 a call & they should be able to assist :)

Well it feels like fraud my friend... not had internet access and they have took my money !. Well I will ring that number up and I can't get a MAC code without a active line thats all i want from the line the right to get ADSL down it.

What is that number for ?

    Daz

PS am still classed as residential so I believe the number is... 0800 545 458 (thats residential complaints). The number you gave me is Business Complaints they would just pass me on :(.

I think he was saying a MAC is not needed on a new line, you only need it when changing ISP's later.

They're only providing you a telephone line, they're not providing you with internet access! BT Retail's only obligation with lines is to provide a telephone service & a telephone service only!!! Its up to you who you chose for your ADSL supplier but in order to get broadband on the line is subject to availability

lol, you're not listening to what im saying!!

MAC = a code which you use to transfer an existing ADSL connection on a line between providers.

You = no ADSL on the line therefore a MAC doesn't even come into it.

Once your line is set up you will then need to phone your ADSL supplier and ask them to set up a provision order, 5 working days later you'll have ADSL on your line.

Ok, apologies for the number, i just did a google search & that number came up. The only way you're going to resolve this is to stick it out with the residential complaints number. You'll get more progress with them than you will posting on here :)
  • Yeah, but if this chap already has ADSL service provisioned on another line and he's looking to migrate it to his girlfriend's line, he can't do that without an active line to which it would be reprovisioned... And BT won't provision (or allow to be provisioned) broadband down a line which isn't effectively associated with a telephone number, as far as I know.

I hate BT, I've had nothing but a year's worth of problems from them myself.

You cant migrate services between lines, he'll need to have the ADSL ceased on his old line & re-provisioned on his new one (if thats the case, he didnt make that clear in his OP :) )

If the line is taged for broadband that may be why it can't be changed.
