theres no-one standing over them though is there. so alot of what they do they dont really have to do.

So people only do their jobs properly if someone stands over them?

what i meant was if you get put on daily signing then why not find yourself some voluntary work as they seem to let you off signing on any day you do your voluntary work.

Yeahh, but daily signing didn't come up for me so bit confused why you quoted my post. It applied more to a previous post.

Anyhow, some job centres can be very funny about volunteering (even if just a few hours). Some will threaten to stop your money if you do start and that's without any issue of signing on daily. So while an option for some, others won't be able to do so.

While they shouldn't be able to stop your money (or you should be able to appeal and get the decision overturned), it's obviously a lot of hassle so just something to be aware of.

at one time me and another person i know had the same adviser. they changed my agreement and increased the required actions to over 40. with the other person they set them at 11. so what the adviser did was purely their choice.

Yeah, there are advisors that do sometimes do things differently based on personal opinions or the mood they're in that day. However, in that case your situations are highly unlikely to be exactly the same and there could be numerous reasons why they did that other than personal reasons.

Some people do. Most, hopefully, do their jobs properly regardless of whether they're being watched or checked, but there will always be some who don't.

it depends on what you see as doing their job properly. people have a brain that enables them to think for themselves. this means if they feel anything about their job is wrong and they can avoid it or change it they probably will. the people that dont do that are generally known as jobsworths. or worse.

the post you quoted talked about daily signing and that post was in response to a post that mentioned daily signing.
jobcentres tend to limit you to 16 hours voluntary work. they cant sanction you for it unless it gets in the way of you getting a job or attending a course. why would they stop you from volunteering altogether when they have a specific form designed for informing them about voluntary work.

you need to note that the poster you responded to is one of those who think the jobcentre giving you a hard time is them doing their job properly.

if i was an adviser i would decide what i think is reasonable and then ask that of everyone i see. i would put in slight variations just to ensure no-one picks up on it.

Only in that it was possibility, but never came up.

Well they can sanction you, it's just pointless as you'd appeal. Wouldn't stop some advisors though sadly.

Why would they stop you is a good question, but I've read numerous times of people having issues with advisors over that and part-time college courses too (so less than 16 hours). Some advisors just like to cause problems.

Yeah. And they're wrong. You only have to glance through threads on here to see the panic, anxiety, (extreme) loss of confidence and depression of those who are being given a hard time by the job centre and it's not needed as you can see these people are doing the best they can and that's only making things far worse.

I imagine many have started with the view to be fair, but there's bound to be those that you just don't get on with or dislike and some advisors just aren't good at hiding that, even if it's just in how polite and chatty they are.

Course, there are those that don't care or just aren't nice people.

What you see as reasonable and what they do are possibly two different things, especially as situations do vary.

Say you decide everyone should find 20 jobs a week and use 3 specific sites. In theory that sounds fair, they all have the same target. In reality, that's not the case. You may have someone who can't use them specific sites or who would do better using other sites. You may have someone looking for jobs where there are hundreds a week they could apply for and someone else who only gets, for example, 10 suitable jobs come up a week.

The point of personal one on one appointments and agreements is that they are tailored to each individual so you've got the best target for them to hopefully find work.

What you should do is be equally as polite to each of them and put aside personal feelings. Basically, be professional lol.
