The work coaches aren't there to waste your time or annoy you.

They're there to check your meeting the conditionality of the benefit your claiming, remove any barriers that are preventing you moving closer to work.

Like it or not, all jobs come with rules that the employees must comply with, so the days of 'not giving you hassle' are long gone. If you choose to claim a benefit, you have to comply with the conditionality of that benefit.
theres no-one standing over them though is there. so alot of what they do they dont really have to do.

    Roughly 7 months ago.

Signing on daily was a possibility. That would have been a very stupid move though as I believe they'd have had to pay travel back and that would have cost them a fortune lol. It was never mentioned though when I went back to the JC after the WP. I don't remember the JC mentioning it previously either, but they may have done.

For the whole time I was signing on, through 2 job programmes, I kept hearing/being told about having to work full time for jobseekers soon as that was the new thing coming in. Never happened. JC never mentioned anything of the sort. Although one of them programmes did involve volunteering daily, but wasn't full time hours (was about 25 hours a week).
by the way on the signing daily point. i believe if you do voluntary work they let you off signing on those days. i know someone on daily signing but it isnt permanent. its only for 8 weeks.

That voluntary work was during a work programme so signing on is different then.

Although that has reminded me that once back with the Job Centre they did want me to do voluntary work, but only because they wanted me to work loads of hours for free for them. There were no other options though, it was volunteer for them or volunteer elsewhere and they really pushed for me working for them.

Everything is checked & monitored. All employees have to follow the rules for your job, regardless of who the employer is. Like the post office telling you about their services, utility companies offering you deals, supermarkets promoting Certain products, bus drivers getting checked they don't let anyone on for free/ cheaper prices.

Just because you don't see anyone standing over someone, doesn't mean things aren't being checked. Everyone in employment, has to do their job as specified to get paid , such is life.
Please be nice to all moneysavers!

  • So you have spent 2 years working for nothing (apart from benefits) on a "dole course"?

I would have thrown the towel in a long time ago to be honest.

Personally, I dont see how you can go 2 years without finding anything, but Im sure its very possible if you live in the right (or wrong) place.

Must be very disheartening, wouldnt wish it on anyone.

If you can afford to walk away you probably wouldn't bother signing on in the first place. Giving up isn't an option. You can't say no to going on the work programmes.

Many factors can be an issue.

Qualifications, experience (not enough and too much), location, travel, industry. That's all before an interview where nerves, appearance and personality can be big factors among other things.

Bigger the gap between jobs, harder it is.

You also have to keep up the quality with applications and don't let quantity take over despite pressure from the job centre/work programmes.

Then there's simply trying to stay motivated and positive which is the hardest part of all.

It's just not that easy for many to find work.

what i meant was if you get put on daily signing then why not find yourself some voluntary work as they seem to let you off signing on any day you do your voluntary work.

at one time me and another person i know had the same adviser. they changed my agreement and increased the required actions to over 40. with the other person they set them at 11. so what the adviser did was purely their choice.
