I just wanted to add a big well done for going back and confronting him. It was diabolical behaviour and you are clearly doing the right thing by,
VOTING WITH YOUR FEET!
As consumers, I honestly believe we can make a difference by standing up and speaking out for what we want.
Interestingly enough, on the Battery Farm Welfare Trust site that I mentioned in the other thread, there is a great page for Armchair Campaigners, with the names and addresses of the decision makers at the supermarket giants. Well worthy of dropping a note to.
I do believe there is a place in our society for supermarkets, but a greater need for communities with hearts back in them. Family run businesses selling all our essentials, fruit, veg, meat and fish.
If we are going to have any kind say in what, when and how we are served, we need to speak up, just like you Leonie! Well done my friend.
Support your small local producers in any way you can and don't feel guilty that you are not going the whole hog! Take it gently, experience the difference a bit at a time and move on to the next level when you are ready.
....and don't forget to tell your friends :j who will tell their friends and they'll tell their friends.....I do love a good bargain!0 -
It used to be said that one unhappy customer would tell ten others. Some companies took this on board and realised that by making the complainant happy they'd get ten good referrals.
In the days now of the innerweb where we might each tell hundreds or even thousands of others you'd think that all these companies would be trying even harder to put things right.
Doesn't seem like it though does it?Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. ......you always get one bad apple!
That seems to tip the balance out of whack.
It made me think about the BBC's Watchdog, Name and Shame Campaign.
While I think it's a great idea to name companies who are just pirates, maybe there should be a thread here for,
Outstanding Service Received
You could just go on there and write:
Who: (name of the company)
Where: (town/county)
What: (do they do/sell)
Why: (do you think they are outstanding)
A far more positive approach to yelling about great service or products, received at a great price!
Also, if people wanted to hop on there and find an organic butcher, they could find them on a search (control + F).
Just a thought....I do love a good bargain!0 -
There is one.
One for poor service and warnings and vents, and one for the good guys called five star service, I think.
They are both to be found on the same board. But heres where the problems can start. Its ok saying use local butchers etc in favour of huge supermarkets but this butchers is the local butchers. Two jolly plump men who know the names of all the local folk. And whilst it is expensive, its where you go to get your sausage and bacon for a weekend fry up because it must be good quality as its from the local caring butcher!
Now i've totally lost faith in him for lying like he did. He obviously has no scruples so I shudder to think what else he may be doing!
I've alerted my friends on another group about the different codes and their meanings. As I for one wont be buying battery eggs ever again0 -
He could have been, though he really shouldn't have been, just merely in error. If you know someone who in a few days time could ask the same innocent question you did, and he hasn't corrected his answer...
..then that would be the time to have a re-think about him. Still dodgy if he's selling a product he doesn't know properly - but not as bad as an outright liar.
A couple of posts up from here in #15 is a link to the warning and vents board. You might like to post the egg info and your story into there to reach more people too.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Yes - I do get your point and like I say, there are always the exceptions to the rule.
While it is an impossible job to change the world, I do believe we can make a difference, one person at a time.
I would not worry about your local guy, he will come unstuck if he is unethical.
You need to look at the positive changes you have made now and enjoy the delights of your new found eggies! Spread the word in conversation, but don't get any more upset by it.
You have done a fantastic thing and are clearly a converted shopper :j which is commendable.
By the way, I thoroughly recommend scrambled eggs on toast, with stacks of cracked, black pepper and a mug of tea!I do love a good bargain!0 -
Well I wont need to worry about how the chickens are kept or what they eat anymore............ as im getting my own!!
The family have spent all weekend building a chicken coop (hubby is very talented and builds wooden greenhouses etc) So hopefully we will have our own eggs in the next couple of weeks!
MSE what have you done to me......... I only came here looking for a thread about vinegar and its uses!! :rotfl:0 -
My girlfriend's family have a farm, they have Barn hens, and personally they're treated as well as any free range hens, maybe even better, because there's no foxes in the barn to eat them!0

I bought some, supposedly, free-range eggs a couple of days ago from the local grocer's. I've just checked them and they have a code '3UK', followed by another 5 digit code. Does this mean they're from hen cages or would the '3' for caged birds be stamped on it's own?0
