On the basis of one magazine article.

Shows the ridiculous hysteria surrounding all of this.

The response from the motor trade guide CAP is that they believe there will be no significant impact on used VW prices. They believe that whilst people may "say" that they bought their VW because of low emissions the reality is, people believe - rightly or wrongly - that diesels are more economical, and that will be the driving factor for continued purchases.

The car tax changes coming up may be fortuitous for VW, as it won't matter a damn that the cars are dirtier than they are supposed to be... you don't get a lower rate unless you're a pure EV.

Unless you're charging your electric car from your wind turbine, it's effectively a coal powered vehicle. Emissions are from the power station chimney instead of the exhaust pipe, so it's just another dodge.

Well, yes. Electricity is just an energy storage device. You have to hope that fossil fuels will be used more efficiently in a power station, however.

But, depending on how you look at it; the Tesla quote could be seen as refreshingly honest...

An internal combustion engine is actually a more efficient use of oil than powering the vehicle through remotely generated electricity.
