  • JoJo I would make the stock first, putting in water, carcass, any old veg hanging around, bay leaves and leave to cook probably I'd do it over night.

To make soup I love chicken, carrots, sweetcorn and a few potatoes. But for a shorter time in the sc than if I was cooking a meal. I'd probably do it on a day when I can be around and for for a few hours on low.

I make soups all the time and generally just google recipes.

    My faves:

    pea & mint
    spicy lentil tomato
    butternut squash
anything that needs using up basically! I made a lovely aubergine and chilli once as needed to use these up!

JoJo - I agree with DNMS, I always make the chicken carcass into stock first. I just chuck the carcass into the slow cooker with a few tops & bottoms off onions (including the skins as these make it a nice rich colour), a few carrot peelings & a chunk of celery or celery leaves so that they get used & not chucked out. If you've got them, chuck in a bay leaf & 2 or 3 black peppercorns, but no worry if you haven't, & top up with water. I strain mine into a jug when it's done.
There are lots of ways to go about making soup. I round up all the veg which needs using - usually I include onions, celery, carrots, potatoes, it can be anything you fancy. I chop it all up then it goes into the slow cooker with any leftover chicken meat chopped small, & some of the stock & any flavourings I fancy - usually herbs, sometimes a bit of soy sauce or whatever. When it's done, I liquidise about half of it & mix it back into the chunky half, as that thickens it. It can take a couple of goes to get the flavours right, but it's worth persevering with as it's filling, cheap & nutritious. I love my slow cooker.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi Everyone

Lovely to read everyones news on the thread today, feels like everyone has had good days in the main.

    My own list:

    1) Uploaded reciepts for milk & shower gel to Shoptize which has earned me 55p
    2) I was cycling along on the school run and noticed 50p at the side of the road, so I checked it was safe then pulled over to nab it. I havent found much roadkill recently so that was a good one!
    3) Uploaded a reciept to Quidco for the 1p
    4) Checked the Argos site for the school shoes I want for DS. We've been managing with last terms but they gave up the ghost this morning, so OH managed to bodge the strap to last till the weekend. But they need replacing. Sadly looks like they are still out of stock. Its a pain as I have a £10 Argos voucher via my MBNA rewards credit card & the style is very durable, 1 pair lasted all of last school year.
    5) Checked both sets of banking.
    6) Using up a jar of pasta sauce from the fridge to do stuffed peppers for tea tonight.
    7) £1 & a bit in my tips jar today
    8) Checked all PADs had arrived in target accounts
    9) Personal NSD
    10) Thought son could buy a cake from the Macmillon sale post school, which they usually do to sell the leftovers from the main bake sale, but for some reason they hadnt chosen to do that, so the £2 we sent him in with lives for another purpose.

Jonno - You laugh about the sniff test but I totally agree, at home anyway, sniffing & judging on texture, colour etc are all key measures of whether food is used. At work I have to be more discenering due to H & S.

Carrie - Thank you. & isnt it awful having an unexpected hang over. Sometimes you can feel worse on a couple of glasses than a full on session. Wow to getting a room for less than £100 in London, good going.

Pippi - It was me who asked about the wombling. I have an interest :) The love food hate waste is a fantastic campaign too. It is shocking when they show on TV programs how much the average family wastes. One suggestion I have seen & agree with is that every single adult should have to go out with a refuse collection team & look at what food is thrown away daily. They think the impact on the population could be huge.

Kayannie - Thanks very much, we did win the Onesie! How odd about how your migraines just started up like that. But it sounds as though Determined, Foxgloves & JoJo all have similar stories. I feel very sorry for you all, they sound very unpleasant. Made me laugh about your dog & the blackberrying :)

    Ziggy - Thank you :)

MinnieMouseMum - If you are just getting into the shopping apps, also have a look at Shoptize & Quidco (ClickSmart) & dont forget to keep all your reciepts for the penny uploads :)

BSCLP - I was interested to read about your trials & the cash for them. I dont think any of us has gone down that avenue so far, so points for originality :)

LegoMum - Well done on all your exercise today! Wow to DS being 10, that seems so grownup to me still. One of the other Mums was telling me today she has just started letting her 10.5year old daughter walk home from school 1 day per week. But she reckons the kids are scamming their parents, because all the ones who walk home are allowed a mobile phone! So of course they are all at it :) Clever kids...

Twiggy - I wasnt sure from reading your post if your Mum had to wax your underarms or her own :) If the latter, then that is super organised of you :)

Dawn - Thank you for being cross on my behalf. Im still getting aclimatised to this new one. She told us right off that she is known for being strict. I have really liked my sons previous 2 teachers so am hoping I will get to know her better. It may be that I took it all very badly being in a bit of a bad way, perhaps she was just looking out for him & she cares a lot about the kids well being etc. I know one of the Mums who had a much older sibling go through her class really dislikes her & they've had multiple run ins....so....

Determined - Glad your migraine went off again. Can imagine how hard that must have felt at the time, driving & having a small child to worry about.

ChocolateLover - How lovely you are. Your words really touched me. Thank you very much. Have a great moving in day.

JoJo - Still envying your lovely new badge, looks so good :)

Princess - That is AMAZING about the interest coming back, what a nice wodge!

Foxgloves - Glad to hear you have someone else to support with your Dad/parents. It always seems so unfair when it falls to just 1. Thank you for your support too. It is so true. The hill by our school is notorious for stand offs between such vehicles. The residents tear their hair out & complain like anything, but so far no 1 way system has been put in place. I also think it sends a bad message to children when parents are so obsessed with them never getting wet or cold etc, they need a bit of toughening up to survive life!

  • Morning :) Been up an hour so thought I'd get us cracking!

Have decided I need to limit the things I need to do to a couple a day rather than a great long list I never get through! So with that in mind today I will:

    * [STRIKE]checked banking & received £11.30 interest :T[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]will read martin's email[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]had a problem with the ms report I needed to submit yesterday. Sent an email so am hoping they come back to me this morning so I can submit it. It's worth £19 to me so frustrated that there was a problem (again!)[/STRIKE] Contacted them and they fixed their system and I submitted it :T
    * [STRIKE]try to do an hour's wallpaper stripping[/STRIKE] I didn't as have shocking since the migraine but oh did some :)
    * [STRIKE]all meals from stores - need to get something out of the freezer[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]onepoll [/STRIKE]and try to get through a backlog of surveys
    * [STRIKE]LSD just taking dgd to a play session - £4[/STRIKE] first session was free :T not sure if it's going to be a regular group though...
*[STRIKE] free activities with dgd this afternoon[/STRIKE] mostly tv as I felt so ghastly
    * go through paperwork for ms assignment tomorrow
*[STRIKE] hula hoop x 10 minutes x 2[/STRIKE] only once
    * [STRIKE]text friend's about get together tomorrow and what I should bring (going to one friend's house and having nibbles and drinks[/STRIKE]
    * text another friend who texted me over a week ago! :o
    * [STRIKE]water plants in greenhouse[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]list a load of things on fleabay tonight [/STRIKE] Listed 4. cbb with anymore tonight...

Ok that's loads already! Have a great day x

Gosh my migraine finally lifted about 3. It's weird because it really does feel like it's lifted, the pressure just goes suddenly.

Poor dgd she had to occupy herself for quite a long time today. I laid down on the sofa at 12.45 and got up at 2.45. I just laid there while she watched tv and played with her games :( Will make it up to her tomorrow.

Play group was free for the first session which means today was a NSD for me. But am watching a mini micro scooter on ebay for dgd's Christmas present so it's probably not going to be a nsd afetr all!

Going to watch yesterday's Eastenders and then go to bed with my book I think x

  • I am so rubbish at being ill - all I want to do is get into bed and never get up again. I'm at that awkward stage where my nose is totally blocked on one side, and free dripping on the other. Oh the glamour :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: You're right Dawn - teaching is tough when you're not 100%.
So pleased to hear you're feeling brighter today Bob.
Chocolatelover - enjoy your new home.
Foxgloves - pleased your dad is sorted out and on the up

    Today's list
    [STRIKE]:o check banking[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:o read Martin's email[/STRIKE]
:o try and post these letters I didn't get round to doing yesterday Grrrrr!!!!!
    [STRIKE]:o full day of teaching[/STRIKE]
:o mark a set of books Grrrrrrrr!!!!
[STRIKE]:o go on a begging mission to get my lessons covered next Wednesday[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:o drink lots of water[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:o stay dosed up with paracetamol[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:o do NOT stress[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:o load of washing[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:o 15 mins housework and declutter, if I can be bothered later[/STRIKE]

Thrilled to have funeral cover sorted out. One less thing to think about.

  • Bob That is such a shame about the shoes for your ds, its hard when you find a type you like! Yes ds has been asking for a mobile since my niece got one nearly 3 years ago, but we've said he can have one when he starts secondary school and not before.

  • Evening all and thanks DNMS for starting the thread this morning. I have recently been having weather related Internet problems, the perils of living in an area where telephone wires are still on telegraph poles, I hope everyone has been keeping well. If the Internet doesn't go off I'm going to catch up with reading this thread, starting with today and working backwards.
