Just had a thought while reading all the posts.
My local chip shop give carrier bag's away with every order, everything from a carton of curry to a fish supper get's a bag, will be interesting to see how they deal with the new law/or not.
They are India owners and speak very little English. No excuse I know but let's see how they manage.
Do shop's get a fine if they don't adhere, or just a slap on the wrist?.
Small stores like this are exempt.0 -
I am undecided about the pleastic bag charge. Think its a good idea for the environment, however people like my mum who has a small book store and depends on free bags will struggle as it is just another dent in the small amount of money she already earns from doing markets.0

In Scotland, where no one is except, all the takeaways just add the 5p onto the final price, hardly seems to be a problem. I'm sure if you were really bothered you could request not to have a carrier bag.
JustEat etc does it automatically when ordering.0 -
A Tesco I called at today was giving everyone a bag for life, free of charge, ahead of next week's charges coming into force.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0

The bags will be free as takeaways will be exempt as to protect the container lids pop open or the chip paper gets unravelled.
Plus I use that bag to throw the takeaway packaging straight into the outside binThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Would appear so but does not cover paper ones at all, so those shopping at Harvey Nics are safe those shopping at ASDA not so
.
But you'd be fine in Primark!:rotfl:
I'm another that will miss the bags as I always recycle them as bin liners for kitchen waste. I need to source carrier bag size liners.0 -
Hi,
oh gosh, I can see England coming to a total stop on Monday.
Jings, 5p for a carrier bag to take shopping home, when most folks have a stock of old ones anyway, just stuff one in your pocket.
I foresee folks with a trolley of shopping at checkout, refusing to pay.
'I'm paying £50 for this shopping, why should I pay 20p for carrier bags?'
Then storms out, leaving shopping at the checkout, into the Range Rover, to go to another supermarket.
So, the English protest will mean, when folks stop shopping at Tesco/Asda/Morrissons etc, some of these stores will eventually shut down.
That then will leave masses of empty stores, which can be converted into shelters for the immigrants, who will soon be flooding in.
There will be chaos on the streets of England on Monday, but that might be the English rugby fans, still humiliated by the defeat by Australia on Saturday, and out of Rugby World Cup.
(But that's for another thread)0 -

I've laid in enough bags in the garage for about 3 bags a week for around 20 years!I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -

Your mother just needs to ask the buyers to bring their own bags, or she just hands the book over to them.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles
