EE charge after leaving

Yes you don't know until you get the final bill what they have done. I would certainly pay the 14 days notice charge even if you wait for the bill as it is the rule and yes it's common amongst all providers except possibly Virgin who you have to inform if switching away I think.
I've never NOT had a problem with any utility firm I've switched away from, they always say leave the DD open for refunds, final bill etc then take money they aren't entitled to and then are very tardy about refunding it.
I think a way around this 14 day notice charge is to inform the company you are leaving 14 days before the switchover day YOURSELF then that counts as notice from then. Mind you some companies are 30 days notice if the customer informs and then there's uncertainty about whether the switch days will sync as you are co ordinating. So in essence let the new provider do it all for you and suck up the 14 day charge. Still hate the two month lag from ending the service and maybe getting a refund though.0 -
I have just spoken to EE as they sent me another bill!
My line was switched on the 11th but they weren't notified by Sky until the 15th so they want payment to the 29th. As my accounting month is 27th - 26th they want the whole months payment only to refund the overpayment in October.
Anyway I've told them I'm cancelling the dd and the op is going to apply a credit for the 3 days difference. She said the 14 days is applied industry wide. When we had to ask for the mac code that was taken as our notice period now we have no control over it.0
