I signed up to sky 2/9
sky say they made ee aware 5/9
Connection date 16/9
EE say sky told them about switch 19/9
EE create a bill for 19/9-18/10 (my regular bill date is 19th)
I cancelled DD and now they email telling me to pay £21.4 or get £2 late fee.
I dont want debt hassle and credit score problem. But really dont see why i should pay, i was told i had to cancel by setting up new provider and letting them deal with it. What should i do?

Its your contract,not Skys.0 -
Its your contract,not Skys.
Not according to new ofcom rules.
http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/internet/broadband-switching/switching-broadband-provider/
Gaining provider led process
Under a 'gaining provider led process', your new provider will arrange the transfer for you.
You only need to contact the provider you wish to switch to, who will notify your old provider of the intended transfer - you do not need to cancel your contract with your old provider.0 -
Hmm thats 14 days after the switch. I was have a look around yesterday to see if I should leave the dd in place for a rebate and found this. I thought they might charge me an extra 14 days because I'm out of contract. My Sky went live on the 11th, not heard from EE yet.
When does my account close?
The date your account closes depends on how you left us:- I was in contract and transferred to a new supplier on the same telephone line - your account will close as soon as you go live with the new supplier
- I wasn't in contract and transferred to a new supplier on the same telephone line - your account will close 14 days after you've gone live with the new supplier
- I was in contract and disconnected all broadband services on the line I had broadband on - your account will close on the same day you request account closure
- I wasn't in contract and disconnected all broadband services on the line I had broadband on - your account will close 14 days after you request account closure

i wasnt in contract and its exactly 14 days. maybe it has to be a full 14 days. so ee are just following their rules and sky took 3 days to inform them. Just seems unfair0 -
It does, especially as they don't charge during the contract. If I end up paying I'm not too worried as I had £131 cashback for EE and £76 + £100 M&S card for Sky but I will read the conditions before the next switch. I guess you got good deals as well if you switched at the same time?0

it was a great deal but left it a few months out of contract paying £21.4
The new ofcom rules were supposed to make it easier, but they just make it easier for companies to overcharge. When you sign up to a new provider there is no mention of when you should sign up or how long they take to contact old provider.0 -

Similar situation to mine recorded in another thread Switching from EE in this forum.
I imagine the bill is for your usual monthly amount and as the 14 day notice period runs from the 19th your account is still active until 3rd of October. Then EE would rebate you from 4th October to 18th October pro rata and repay it on your normal DD day probably in November!
I told them I have to pay Sky with that money not EE and I wasn't prepared to make a loan to them and also as my service changed over on 7th and they don't have to do anything but give me a final bill why couldn't they use the 18 days notice 14 +4 days it took Sky to officially tell EE even though EE knew from 25th August to produce a final bill? Answer is that's the way their billing system works.
I said I would cancel the DD so I didn't go overdrawn by two service providers debitng my account for the same service, one of which EE, wasn't providing any service and owed me a final bill. I threatened going to ombudsman and said how can they lawfully request an overpayment when they know as of now that I am due a final bill?
I was then passed to Billing and she said cancel my DD and they would cancel the remaining 4 days I owed them which fell in the next billing period so I accepted that. Had I paid the bill I would have been owed £21 refund which they would have repaid in the second week of November! When all I owed was about £4. That's assuming they actually processed the refund correctly. Maybe ask EE to pay interest on the overpayment at 20% plus a daily penalty charge and agree to pay all overdraft fees incurred at your bank by going overdrawn!
Looking at EE leaving options I notice they say its 14 days charge from the day the service goes live with new provider NOT 14 days from when the new provider tells EE they have officially completed the takeover which in my case was four days later.
Its just a charge for nothing and a rip off. As usual new rules cause the customer to pay a forfeit just like the new 0845 access charges of 15p a minute plus any charge the organisation you call make.
My advice phone Billing dept., tell them if you had paid their bill which is mainly an overpayment you would have gone overdrawn at the bank because you had to pay Sky too and if EE can't produce a Final Bill in the 14 or so days after takeover that is their problem not yours!0 -

I rang earlier they spoke to manager and they said ignore the october cut off date, my account closed on 19th. The suggestion was pay the month then get refunded all but the 19th. I said ive cancelled DD and they said pay then get cheque refund or leave it and octobers credit will pay for most of septembers bill, then pay extra. I had to remind them of the late fee.
I think im gonna wait and pay end of october and hopefully it will be under £1 plus £2 late fee0 -
You have done well extrafisher!
I used the arguament that notice should begin when Sky first contacted EE 13 days prior to switchover day but EE insisted notice started four days after switchover day when Sky confirmed takeover so I have paid for 13 days after switchover day but you will only pay for about 3 days.
I may still complain and ask for a refund for 13 days after switchover. Guess managers have discretion and or they are backtracking on when notice begins:cool:
Mind you its only about £10 so maybe my time would be better spent chasing the next hot deals:)0 -

More likely i was given dodgy info, thinking about it think i will have to pay 14 days plus £2 charge. I dont think non payment would be a big deal but probably not worth it.
Do other providers have similar rules?0
