Hi,
Our NIS software was due to expire on Friday so we bought the newer version (Norton Security) and installed that which was cheaper than renewing. Worked fine on my Win 7 desktop Pc, but had to get some Norton assistant via remote access to install it and set it up on our Win XP netbook. Well, he basically gave up after 3 hours and told us to run Norton Removal Tool then cut us off!
So, it now works fine except we can no longer access ANY HTTTPS (Secure) websites in Chrome i.e. Google search homepage, Twitter, or Yahoo email.
Works fine in Firefox but not Chrome. Have spend hours tinkering to no avail.
Does anyone please know how to fix this?
Typing google.co.uk or google.com directly into the address bar just doesn't work either.
Not happy!
HELP PLEASE!

Just typing www.google.co.uk tries to take you to the secure HTTPS version with the https part crossed out in red and some Chrome warning about an insecure connection0

Remove Norton test and reinstall .
Could be its not compatible with an old OS .0 -
Windows Operating Systems
- Microsoft Windows XP (all 32-bit versions)
- Microsoft Windows Vista (all versions) with Service Pack 1 (SP 1) or later
- Microsoft Windows 7 (all versions) with Service Pack 1 (SP 1) or later
- Microsoft Windows 8/8.1 (all versions). Some protection features are not available in Windows 8 Start screen browsers.
- Norton Security includes all of its protection features while browsing in the Windows 8 desktop. Internet Explorer-specific protection such as Norton Safe Web, Antiphishing, Scam Insight Safe Search and Identity Safe are not available when using browser apps on the Windows 8 Start screen.
- Microsoft Windows 10 (all versions). Edge browser not supported.

Nope XP isn't supported, MS dropped support for XP last year and it's getting a bigger security threat by the day. For the sake of others do something about your insecure OS, upgrade to a supported OS - think of those in your address book and contacts lists. You will also find the risk of bugs with so called "supported" software increasing as developers give XP a very low priority.
NB Chrome support will be dropped completely for XP by the end of 2015.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
Do you actually need xp on the notebook? I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon on my old laptop with no issues at all. Obviously I can't run Windows software on it but for browsing email and Google apps stuff it's fine.0

@fightsback
The poster was referring to whether Norton supports XP not whether MS still does....0 -
Did you make sure that you have the updated Norton Internet Security extension for chrome installed?
If it works with Firefox then I am sure it installed the latest plugin on it.
Maybe it is a compatibility issue with chrome.0 -

NS Sherlock,
and I was referring to XP which is unsupported and low on a developers compatibility list. It may have been compiled for XP compatibility but that doesn't mean it's interaction with other components is going to be bug tested much, if at all. So don't expect Norton's to have a stellar support on XP.
This is the reality of XP, anyone who thinks otherwise is living in lala land.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

You could be onto something there. We declined installing the NIS Chrome extension upon installation.
And to reinstall it, through the help pages, you have to click on a SECURE HTTPS link which of course won't load in Chrome!0
