Parents in business, kids in economy

I do see your point but the same thing could happen to your teenage daughter on a crowded bus, in the cinema or any crowded place...... you can't escort them everywhere for ever.
Frankly all teenage girls should be taught how to deal properly with unwanted advances -before it happens- most aren't unfortunately - at least not by parents although possibly by their peers (whether this is a good thing or not is another matter).
Absolutely!0 -
You could save even more money and leave them at home !
Seriously I wouldn't dream of it , we have taken adult children and grandchildren away with us and still wouldn't do it, surely the whole point of going away is to be together.
imagine if something did go wrong with the flight , how scared would your children be if they were alone?Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
I do think some of it is down to how often you fly.
For families to whom a holiday is a once a year "event" then the journey is part of the experience and fun and exciting - to those who fly more often it's more of a means to an end.
I wouldn't think much of adult children who insisted their parents turned down an upgrade because the adult children couldn't have one too though. Dog in the manger springs to mind. I'd be insisting my Mum and Dad took the extra comfort .I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I hate to spoil the drama, but if a plane is going down, whereabouts you are sitting is irrelevant.
True. However wouldn't you wish to spend your last final moments holding your children and telling them you love them rather than leaving them to die on their own?Moving this on a bit but in the same vein as the OP.
You are travelling with your spouse (no kids) and you are offered an upgrade at the gate . Do you
A Take the upgrade and leave your spouse in economy after all you earned it with all your frequent flying
B Give it to your spouse as they deserve it for keeping everything running at home whilst you are travelling for work and they deserve a treat.
C Refuse it and both remain uncomfortable in Y
This question comes up fairly often on flyer talk.
C. We wouldn't wish to be seated separately.
I'm actually surprised by how many consider this ok. Of course people are entitled to their opinions and to parent how they wish. However my opinion is that it's terrible parenting and frankly slightly disgusting behaviour for a number of reasons. I don't have children but if I did there is no way I'd wish to be seated away from them.0 -

Situations where it is acceptable in my eyes:
1. elderly grandparent with mobility and/or health issues needs the comfort of upgraded seat, so one parent and kids travel economy.
2. parent has long night flight and needs to work/ long drive the next day, so needs to sleep.
Remember that some of the group remaining in economy could make the difference between whether the family gets another holiday in the year or not.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
