The CAA considers anyone aged 12 or above an adult for this purpose. BA allows 12 year olds to sit in exit rows, some airlines set their own limit higher (eg Monarch say 16 or above), but 12+ meets CAA rules.

    Well that escalated!!!

But helpfully answered a question for me, looks like I'll be able to have exits row seats for me and my 15yo daughter when we fly to Italy next year ;)

Depends on the airline, some have their own policy on this. You'd be ok on BA if that helps?

(And all the willy waving on this thread is hilarious! ;))

  • We've had 2 sets of 2 seats in different classes a number of times. I take one of the children (to the higher class!) my husband takes the other. On the return we just switch children.

I did it by accident once. I was upgraded at the gate just before boarding.

My question would be why did you accept the upgrade? They aren't compulsory as far as I'm aware, and I'm pretty sure somebody else would have taken the seat. Unless of course your child is so annoying that you'd prefer to have a stranger's flight ruined by them. [I suppose an alternative is that your behaviour is so foul that your child insisted you sit elsewhere.]

Because I wanted to. Red eye flight - I could sleep next to my son (who has the knack of sleeping anywhere and slept the entire flight in his economy seat) or in a business class seat yards away. Not a difficult decision when travelling with a teenager who has travelled long haul on a very regular basis since he was old enough to be a pleasure to travel with. I do realize some people (even adults ) find the thought of travelling in non adjacent seats to be a fate worse than death but most frequent flyers (of all ages) tend to be a bit more self-sufficient. .

Airlines tend not to upgrade passengers displaying foul behaviour - Perhaps that might explain why both of our upgrade rates are somewhat higher than someone who is insulting and rude- Just a thought you might want to consider when travelling in the future :)

I hope that answers your rather odd question !

Mental. Why would any normal parent even consider this?

Because it's a lot cheaper and a lot more civilised for the parents!

    Discuss (I know you will)

My Perfect upgrade would be me turning left, wife in Business, to keep her quiet
and kids in kennels (near our house so they don't get homesick!)
plus favorite hound under my seat - after that it's pure fantasy......
Turning left avoids some of the idiots (only some)

I have to wonder why some people have children in the first place.
