When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!

So be proud of those small steps, they really important!:money:

Morning I hope everyone is ok :) ally amazing news on your job offers. Hope you feel like you know which offer you're going to accept!

Small things for today:

* check banking
* have read paperwork for ms assignment I need to go off and do shortly. Need to do it and be back before oh needs to leave for work
* all meals from stores
* go through fridge & cupboard and make sure nothing is about to expire
* redo meal plan to factor in the food oh's parent's gave us
* going to the play gym this morning to meet up with a friend and her dd
* will nip into a shop while in town to get some bits for home brewing and also a little gift for a birthday party dgd has on Sunday
* try to reach my dd and find out why she has gone out of contact...
* go for a walk this afternoon as long as it's not raining and hopefully find some elderberries
* submit meter readings
* set up dd for FU - gosh I really do have to do this soon!
* do any surveys that come my way
* list some things on fleabay
* text bff about a play date tomorrow

Ok that's all for me. Have a great day

  • Good morning DNMS and all that follow. I really hope that you manage to get in touch with your dd today... it must be quite stressful for you.
I'm thrilled to have made it to Friday and still be reasonably fully functioning. I still need to be keeping busy today so that I don't have to bring work home for DD's birthday weekend but I am really looking forward to a bit of a lie in tomorrow.
I carried a couple of important things over from yesterday so need to make them my top priority at work today.
    :D mark extra exam papers
:D do my massive stack of photocopying before I die underneath it
    :D DS to football practice
    :D check banking and PAD
:D 15 mins housework and declutter
:D mark at least 1 set of books
:D prepare all slides for the first two days next week
I expect loads more over the day, but I'll see you all later.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning

Thanks for the start Determined. As a fellow FU sufferer I thought I'd share my own experience this week. Having finally cleared the arrears on our account (which was their fault anyway) I told them I wanted to go onto variable DD. Had a chat with a guy who said that was fine. Hang up. Get an email from them..to tell me they would be putting my DD up to £180 a month, from £105. As our bill was only £57 I don't think so!!! Cheeky scammers. So that's my story! Suffice to say am going to start shopping around!

Jono- thanks for explaining more about your business on last night's thread. It must be really good for your own well being knowing so much about the topic and having to stay ahead of developments to be competitive. I am going to sign up for my vouchers thank you :)

CCL - I find most of my life is like that. Blink and I've missed it. Definately easy to get a bit unhealthy on the work life balance at times..

    Ally- good luck today!

Well. Up at a reasonable time..have so far cleaned the kitchen. Packed all the dishes away. Unloaded clean dishwasher stuff. Wiped down stove top from last night's meal.
Made sure DS has done his homework sheet and had breakfast.
Breakfast was from a YS loaf which I got two for 12p each.
Hit another nectar reward for Mr S..so will update my wombling score.
Quidco have just emailed to say my cashback of £1.09 has been paid. So that's today's PAD sorted :)

The artist who is displaying her work for the art trail this weekend has not yet been in. She's cutting it fine! Am really hoping it will be good for business this weekend.

Right well off to get on with the day. Have a great Friday.

    Morning all :)

Hope you manage to contact your DD DNMS, what a worry :(
Ally, congrats on the job offers :T Difficult decisions but at least no more Jobcentre :D

    List for today:
Working this morning - I need to restock my sales unit, and will be minding the entire shop for a short while. Hope it isn't too busy as I will be on my own and as I haven't done it before, don't really know the ropes! All fine, much more relaxed than the similar shop I helped at before!

Put some stuff away - it is starting to look like a jumble sale again in here, though it is clean enough underneath. I have toys, books, magazines, shop stock, clothes, puppy bits all over the living room, plus randoms such as a hairdryer and a load of packaging from something of OH's :oDone some, but ended up buying a load of stock and there is stuff everywhere again

Start a meal plan / shopping list as I am running out of some essentials Started

HM meals from stores - we will eat up bits and pieces in the fridge for supper, with cheap potatoes that I bought at the market yesterday and HG salads

More garden tidying if it doesn't rain. My garden isn't very big, but there is an awful lot in it, and it all needs tidying ready for the winter Didn't get to this as I have been sorting out shop stock all day and started moving my unit

Any surveys - I have less than £1 to go before onepoll payout :T Actually it is just 10p :T

    FPL Done

Read Royal Mail survey guidance again to try to understand which recieved items need to be recorded and which don't  Not done this yet

Right, that should keep me busy for most of the day - better get on!

Hope everyone has a good day :)

    Good Morning All

DNMS - Thanks for starting us off today
Bob - I think we should seriously consider our neigbour's offer but DH is worried that if we need garage in the future - our neighbour currently has 2 cars - one he uses for work and a brand new 2015 mini for weekends and unfortunately the mini has been scratched already - for me its a no brainer, accept his offer and offer to give him a months notice if circumstances change - money for nothing :rotfl:

In other news, lots of ponderings have been going on here and we've made the decision to change our car and we pick it up this afternoon - less road tax, more fuel efficient, and smaller engine (we no longer need a big car for towing now we have sold caravan), it will be easier for mum to get in, we traded our current car in (my brother works for dealer), used proceeds from sale of caravan so no money to find to pay - it's all done ;)

Hi to all of the regulars and a BIG welcome to all the newbies, this is a really FAB thread with so many lovely, caring, considerate and supportive people.

looking like another nice day, today's little list:

Packed lunch for DH - Done
Tidy freezer & meal plan -
    Post Office -
    Library
Collect order from Asda (Christmas pressies) -
Look for freebie whilst in Asda (voucher for a tuna deli-thing) -
    Bump listings/stuff for sale -
    Sort car Insurance -
    Collect new car -
Fingers crossed freeglers turn up (2/3 turned up yesterday, other one fell asleep and wants to come today) -
Convince DH to seriously consider a neighbours request to rent our garage (we only use it for storage atm) -
    Continue purge on Emails -
    Surveys -
    Check Banks -
    Enter a few comps -
    All meals from cupboards/fridge/freezer -
    Read library book -
Check https://www.freepostcodelottery.com - Remember there are now 5 chances to win -
    Check Lucky Phone -

Right best crack on, need another cuppa and a quick shower before anything happens. Have a great day, love to you all

    Morning all,

Thanks DNMS for the start, I hope that you hear from dd today.
CCl, hope you have a lovely weekend for your dd's birthday.
Bob, Thanks for your post last night, I did get my niece a lovely card thank you. I don't usually spend much on cards and have a generic stash (or the kids make one) but I'd seen this particular card a few weeks ago and thought it to be perfect for her, my sis was with me and thinks the she will want to frame it (not bad for 59p!)
Ally, great news about the job situation :)

:) ally amazing news on your job offers. Hope you feel like you know which offer you're going to accept!

    Morning all,

So, it's back to work for me this morning after 8 weeks of unemployment. It's heavy-duty manual work back with my last employer until whichever 'real' job kicks in in a week or two. (I'm no closer to deciding.) Money at last! :D Even if it is only £6.70/hour for the time being.

    Pieces and coffee packed.

Bottle of £1.99 cider chilling for when I get home. I'm not even a big drinker.

So that's me. No list as such. Have a good Friday.

Hope it goes well Ally, I am sure it will :)

Bob, for heavens sake dump FU

I have just signed up for another year with Ovo. Their customer service is good, you get a statement every month (online) and can change your own direct debit amount on their web site. I did the comparison when the 12 months contract ended, and they weren't the absolute cheapest (allegedly, I don't always trust the results) but having suffered at the hands of NP*ower *DF and others in the past, I am happy where I am thanks!

Do they still have the energy club thing on this site? Might that be worth looking at - unless FU feature prominently of course
  • Morning all,

Been AWOL for a bit with work mayhem. Doing OK on the money front, but so easy to slacken off. Since my last post I have bought
    2 pillowcases
    tulip bulbs
and other minor small purchases that add up.
Done OK on groceries, stayed to the £40 and frankly am wondering what to buy to make the order up to 40. If I cancel an order and go shopping for bread and milk I know I will spend much much more, so the dilemma continues!

    Have a good day all.
