Dla and son with autism advice

my point about ready meals isn't an issue of them being healthy or unhealthy.
if the DWP took the opinion that ready meals as a way of life are acceptable, then the need to receive DLA for this task would be removed for most claimants.
so then they have less money and would be eating more expensive food.
an awful lot of ready meals are awful and in tests have high levels of fat, salt and sugar.... no not to be promoted surely?0 -
I won't say more, I think the argument around ready meals that million of people eat every day without dying from it and the need of DLA to eat better says it all for me.
Your comment about not dying is a ridiculous threshold.
If it was logical, we would feed prisoners solely on this basis.
They would have food only so that too many of them did not die, would be locked in darkened cages and hosed down once or twice a day.
Why should it be reasonable to expect disabled people to put up with conditions that would be intolerable for murderers?
DLA - and indeed PIP - are intended to be used to provide the disabled person with some degree of equality and dignity in society.
They are not there to solely keep them alive.
It is explicitly expected and hoped that some will be able to work.0 -

But you say you don't get that. Despite receiving DLA for the cooking criteria you don't actually get any benefit from it. It doesn't appear to enhance or help.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -

Oh course I wasn't meaning dying literally!
Degree of equality and dignity? How does extra money helps you with that when your wife (one anyone else) cooks you lovely meals anyway?
What I am saying is that descriptors should be written to assess whether claimants require extra funding, not to confirm they are disabled. In the case of cooking, it should ask 'do you need to rely on fresh cooked food every day' and 'do you require fee paying professional help to cook your meal.0 -

That is going to be so expensive. And like I've said, you then should do that for child benefits too.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

What's all this nonsense about cost? Childs DLA is awarded based on extra care needs/time, i.e how much extra TIME do you spend caring for the child, not how much extra money you spend. Otherwise the form would ask how much extra you spend, not how many minutes.
My son has an as yet undiagnosed learning difficulty, we initially thought he was on the spectrum, but if he was it was mild, but after 2 yrs we were finally told he isn't, it's something else.
We were told to try for DLA, so we did (spured on by my wife being denied any ESA/JSA). I filled in the forms completely honestly, thinking we would get low rate care at best, so was amazed when we got mid rate care. That then meant my wife could get carers allowance.

Get a crockpot. Throw in a bunch of vegetables, liquid, and a protein, set on low for 8 hours and you are good to go.rogerblack wrote: »Neglecting the cost - ready meals are not a panecea.
I have in the recent past had food poisoning twice due to improperly preparing and using them.
Once when I re-used a plate from a couple of weeks earlier that I thought I had used the day before.
Once when I hadn't realised I hadn't put all of the ready meals away in the freezer when I got them.
I reheated one after it had apparantly been out two weeks.
Yes, it tasted funny, no I could not face getting a replacement from the kitchen.
This is added to the fact that I frequently either overheat or underheat the meal, leading to either burns or frozen bits in.
I'm also so wobbly that I quite often drop them.0
