Hi I have a 5 year old Intel quad core PC with Vista on it that I want to upgrade and I have been advised to just add an SSD drive and install Windows 10 on it and as I have Vista I'm not eligible for the free upgrade, so do I buy 10 or buy 8 and upgrade, what's the best/cheapest/simplest method to do this?

You could try Linux Mint."Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect." - Mark Twain0

something like that then upgrade!Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -

Will that give me a everything I need to get to a full proper version of Windows 10?
i.e. not some abridged version0 -

Google will tell you how and where to have it for £0.00Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0

Yep, that worked for me on a PC I built. Bought a refurbishment Windows 7 Pro COA off Amazon a while back and it upgraded to 10 no bother.0 -
Before spending any money on an upgrade to W10, have you checked to confirm that there are suitable drivers available for everything you have on your current PC?0

Well thats what I was worried about, I was going to buy a new pc but then someone said the 5 year old pc I have is fast enough, just get an SSD drive and Windows 10, upgrade the ram to 8Gb and it will fly, I have a Intel Quad core, its this Medion Intel Quad core Q8200 2.33GHz with 4 GB of ram.
Looks like upgrading would cost maybe £200+ whereas the Medion Intel i7 I would buy would cost me £800 but even if it works fine now I dont want problems a year later, what do you think should I buy new or upgrade?0 -
ok go here and run a scan on your memory (already fitted) http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/systemscanner?gclid=CjwKEAjwyemvBRDFpN3E5_bs9BQSJAA5n8L2d--5V2VhXSoCunNwb09B6N3DCpdNuAtig7uQLcIxNBoCNa3w_wcB&cm_mmc=google-_-uk-_-dram-_-null&ef_id=VeLLwQAABCykoiK1:20150917211915:s
it will tell you the max your machine can take and also what is fitted and if you have any empty slots
hard drive : I have now started just fitting a 128g for customers , they then use there old drive as file storage , a 128g ssd (example) £34 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A1ZTZNM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_15&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
and a copy of windows 7 , and you have cracked it
unplug your old drive , run win 7 , then update to win 10 , also d/load the dvd or pendrive version , once your board has been registerd by Microsoft , reboot , wipe and reformat the new ssd , load windoze , turn off reconnect your old drive , and copy any data temporally over to the ssd , format the old drive then copy data files back over , ok , its a long job , but might save you well over £6500
