Surprised no one here is talking about the Bilstein B8 shocks and H&R springs. Most on here probably never even heard of the companies or that gas shock absorbers exist.
In the 90's all the teen and early-twenties kids who couldn't afford to buy good cars would buy 80s or early-90s superminis and upgrade them with bits they saw advertised in lad's mag Max Power. So anyone in their 30s and 40s with a passing interest in cars will know what upgraded shocks and springs are, and will have heard of those companies. And gas shock absorbers have existed for longer than you've been alive.

You shouldn't be surprised that no one here is talking about your Bilstein B8 shocks and H&R springs that you added to your fantasy car. You started a thread which was ostensibly to review a TDI remap and then decided to show off about how you are such a car nut by shoehorning in a bit about some suspension work that you already had done. I expect the readers thought this was just you posturing, and your inclusion of these parts it in your post certainly did not invite discussion or debate because presumably the purpose of the thread was to talk about your new engine remap; the suspension upgrade was something that had happened in the past.

    Hope this helps.

FWIW, my car is an auto and always starts off in second because first gear is too short to be necessary for general driving when you have plenty of torque. The suspension weights up nicely in the corners, as the car has 'Active Dynamics' (tm). I bought the car that I wanted, rather than buying a 2 litre diesel that didn't suit my needs and then trying to chip it and add aftermarket suspension until it got a bit better. So, I am a savvy motoring enthusiast. But why isn't everyone talking about me me me?

Maybe I need to use google and wikipedia a bit more to find out about other cars I don't have and then pretend I've done upgrades to them, and try to make friends online. If that doesn't work, I can moan that nobody else is a real enthusiast apart from me.
  • Which fantasy car do you drive? Active dynamics hey...sounds like a BMW

370z...interesting. Glad to know that there are few enthusiasts on this forum.

Someone I knew had the 350z for a couple of years. It was the last build engine with 313PS engine. Amazing car and loved the Bose sound system. He used Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5w30 which is an ester based oil. I'm pretty sure the newer 370z has the same spec oil as the 350z. So only a suggestion...

Yeah theres only 13K on it now, we got it with 9K.

Our is the GT so its got the Bose, Nav, cruise, Xenons, etc.

Actual car: XF. Fantasy cars: various models of Zonda, Maclaren, Ferrari, Bugatti.

I'm not sure what drives a person to fantasise about a 2 litre diesel that they kitted out with aftermarket shocks, and then post a "review"about how they remapped the ECU but didn't measure its characteristics before or after.

Still, takes all sorts to make a world, and a laugh at others' expense can be cathartic. Keep it up! :D
  • Had my last car remapped and will be getting my current car remapped soon.

If it's wheel spinning you sure that's not just down to driver error and you're not modulating the throttle enough.
  • Still can't believe that

    a) £399 upgrades are available for Xbox games, and

    b) anyone would buy them!
  • SuperAllyB either you're just not interested in cars or you have a chip on your shoulder because other people own nice vehicles or worse, you're both

Or they recognise you're a fantasist with time to waste.

And since when was a middle-aged, starship mileage, mid-range Golf in a shiny suit and chavved suspension a 'nice vehicle'?

Lol do you really call the Bilstein B12 suspension kit or to be more precise B8 uprated gas shocks and H&R springs 'chavved up'? Shows how little you know. BMW/Merc and Porsche use Bilstein parts BTW. These are high end kits (next step is magnetic coilovers but then you've going into 3-4 grand worth) and are used and designed for tracking

Yeah, I'm completely clueless about everything, because I don't have your Googling skills.

In any case, I didn't call your springs and shocks 'chavved up'. I called your Golf's suspension 'chavved up'.

I don't really care if you're using Ohlins, WP, Sachs, Penske, Bilstein or whatever. You've taken a diesel, midrange Golf and lowered it, and you want to put other bumpers and wheels on to make it look less like a midrange Golf. That's chavved up.
