Didn't publicly-owned France Telecom rollout an innovative national internet service in 1982 (only retired 3 years ago) way ahead of that WorldWideWeb thingy.

A few pence IIRC added to your phone bill.

how much exactly did I pay for a service I never used?

I'd hope that most professionals weren't earning between £16/£24k, but I don't doubt for a second that there's no shortage of professionals who do start work at that time of the morning and often run through until the last bus drivers finish without a crew change taking place :o

From 0500 until after midnight - I very much doubt it!

We all have regrets in our lives but if that's the worst you've ever had, you've indeed led an enviable and charmed life. :)

In general I would say that completion is good and state monopolies are not as efficient as a well run private company. But the case is not so clear with untilities and I do not believe that privatising a state controlled company will make it efficient.

It's fair to say that the rush to deregulate the gas energy market for the commercial customers placed speed over quality. Each shipper had a mad dash to grab customer share.

One outfit had over 80,000 errors! If just 5 of these errors affected critical supply customers like a hospital you faced fines of a million+.

As always, it's how you implement something which is just as important as the principles behind it.

I suspect that this idea will fall by the wayside over the next 5 years. As the inner workings of the public sector are revealed. Going to plenty of FOI requests flying about.

Sounds like excellent value for money if you ask me, I'm sure if the vast majority knew you could give Murdoch a kick in the nads for only £46 they'd be lined up around the block

Thanks to topcashback Sky have been paying me to have broadband and now fibre for the last two years.

I just assume internet is always going to be free from now on.

Doubt it as much as you want, I can go for months on a solid four hours kip a night, and there's no shortage of youngsters out there keener than myself these days :(

That said I've never tried my hand at bus driving, which undoubtedly requires nerves of steel and is bound to be one of the most mentally challenging jobs out there, that sort of graft would see me burnt out in a week at the most :money:

It kind of makes you wonder why NASA doesn't recruit directly from TfL it would save them a fortune in recruitment and training costs

Er, I'd not do that for too long. Sleep for minimum 6 hrs is one of the few reliable ways of clearing out amyloid which causes Alzheimer's;)

Oh dear, it's little wonder the grey cells don't fire up quite as quickly as they used to, so who's joining me in the Gatwick Flounge this morning for some crappy bacon and eggs, here's hoping the BA bus driver managed to get a bit more sleep than myself ;)

On the bright side it looks like early showers which won't hang around and a reasonable 27c, if I have a productive morning I may have to reward myself with a walk to the beach for a swim, fingers crossed the Spanish girls haven't forgot how to wear a bikini :D

That's what you paid, not what it cost to run
