My rights regarding faulty carpet

Personally I would ask them to remove the lot, in the meantime order another one with your full refund from a reputable Independent supplier, usually supplied and delivered within days....you will probably save yourself a good few quid and you can haggle over the price. Did you know that Carpetright charge "for delivery" and its quite a lot, over £100 I think.....my question is, how can you buy the carpet and have it laid unless they deliver it ??
Might seem OK to have a faulty carpet but it will drive you mad after a while. I had one recently on a woven carpet, it had wavy grey lines all over it, it got worse after hovering (they let me keep the carpet while they sent the inspector and until they replaced it with my new choice) The makers sent out a carpet inspector.....contamination.....the independent carpet shop said they could give me a 50% discount, I told them I wouldn't have it even if it were free.....remember what you paid for the carpet is not what the carpet shop pay for it.....so they make either way if you keep it.Sunshine0 -
Gormless carpet fitter should have noticed the fault when he unrolled the new carpet BEFORE fitting it............0

What are you on about?? Have you ever use them?
I bought a carpet from them last year and there was no £100 delivery charge. The whole amount including fitting was just over a £100 to start with!!!

You'll only get the cost of the carpet refunded though. The fitting, underlay and anything else required will not be refundedSunshine62 wrote: ». Did you know that Carpetright charge "for delivery" and its quite a lot, over £100 I think?Delivery costs.
There is a standard delivery charge of £39.00 for beds and £29.00 for carpet, vinyl, LVT and laminate flooring purchases and £3.99 for rugs. There will be one charge only for all the goods on the order. For example, if you buy a laminate as well as carpet you will only need to pay £29 for the delivery of both. The delivery charge is made to cover the cost of delivery to the customer’s home. Delivery is not charged when a customer is going to collect (or take away) the goodsSunshine62 wrote: »my question is, how can you buy the carpet and have it laid unless they deliver it ?0 -

Maybe you got a remnant and a small cheap quality one ! I have never bought a carpet from Carpetright, but I know one or two people who have, they definitely do charge delivery and overpriced everything else! Despite their "60% so called discounts" most carpet shops will beat them without such gimmicks and supply you with a range of carpet samples whereby you can check price elsewhere. Carpetright very often use their own carpet names in most cases so you cannot do this (unless you ask your independent, who will be able to cross reference the name for you!).Sunshine0 -

One of my family members works in a small carpet shop as a manager and they advised me that carpet shops tend to make up names for each carpet. This makes it harder for customers to compare prices elsewhere. Not sure if it is a supplier thing or just a store thing, but yes they do make up names to avoid price comparing.
Strangely enough, the small shop doesn't charge for drop-off - only fitting. They also do free measures, but if you appear to be a timewaster then the sizes sometimes end up slightly short (much to the dismay of customers who use the free measure to go on to buy carpets from places like carpetright :rotfl:).
£100 including fitting and delivery suggests a runt piece of carpet. Especially when you consider that profit margins can be upwards of 50-100% on carpets (back in the good days at least!). Probably a small cupboard fitting, or a "landlord special" piece of vile carpet... My family member has flogged £100 carpets with hardly any markup and the quality was poor/area small.0 -
Shaun, maybe its related to the price of the carpet ? or maybe that is for delivery and fitting (not underlay though) ....but I know my friend had a bedroom fitted and it came to £129 for those elements.
Another reason to go for an independent, apart from supporting the local shopkeepers, is they generally employ their own fitters and any problems the shop have to sort them out. I have also done very well out of being a returning customer over 17 years and I always get a great deal, they give me one price and then I work out the overall price per sq mtr.Sunshine0 -

carpet right don't employ there own fitters. It was an independent that fitted my carpet. That I paid when he fitted it and not carpet right.
It was a really cheap £2.99 a sq meter just to tide me over to finish a room off.

The fitters are not employed by Carpetright but they are recommended by them and they also book the fitter and pass on your details so even if you don't pay Carpetright, they are, IMO, still responsible for the standard of work as they are acting as an agent for the fitter.0
