£5 reward from h@lifax off to the mortgage. :) Waiting on MB money to come back in before I OP more, currently all the interest-earning accounts are maxed out so may as well get the interest while it's there.

Feeling very down about my health. :( Saw the neurologist who's referred me for tests (one on my birthday, such fun!). With the delay to get results (bloodwork from late Sept still hasn't arrived?!?) it'll be early December before they have test results, and then they have to schedule another appointment so that I can find out the results. I expect that to be in January at the earliest. :(

In the meantime I've only been able to get to work 1-2 days a week, except one week where I (miraculously) felt well enough to go in every day. Work is being semi-supportive (saying supportive things, but not giving me flexibility in where I work, so I'm either home sick or in the office - no in-between). Having a chat with the MD tomorrow about this, that should be fun - they want my medical records, though I have no idea what they plan to do once they have them.

Aside from work, I'm essentially non-functioning in my day-to-day life. Sometimes I can manage to walk the dogs (did today, though then felt death-like when we got back inside after a 5 minute walk). Sometimes I can't climb the stairs without help (slight problem in a 3 storey house!). DH had to brush my hair the other morning because I could (barely) lift the comb up to my head but I didn't have the strength/coordination to pull it through any knots/tangles. Really demoralising. :(

Anyway...not much I can do about any of this, I guess. My tests are finally scheduled, so at least that's something. And I am really grateful to know that, worst case, I could just stop working and we would be OK financially. Not brilliant (would have to give up my precious OPs! ;)), but we'd certainly manage just fine. So that's a huge relief, even though I wouldn't like that outcome at all.

In happier news, have a few tentative motions on the job hunting front. We'll see how that progresses in the next few weeks. Fingers crossed - I like the people I currently work with, but not the way they choose to work, so a change would be welcome (especially as it would involve no commute, and would make moving to Ireland much simpler if I already had a few months of working somewhere under my belt pre-move).

Sorry for the super negative post. It is what it is, I suppose.

I am so sorry things are tough for you right now. Hope you get answers soon, January seems to long to wait when it is so hard. Also think work are being a bit hard - you don't have answers yet so what are they expecting to see in your records for goodness sake???
Maybe the would like to fund a private consultation to speed the process up ?
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Indeed, I think January is the worst bit really. Already waited 4 months to see the neurologist, and if it is January it'll be another 4 months from first to second visit with them (when I might, if I'm lucky, get some answers - or I might get referred for more tests). I've phoned up to various people to confirm the timeframes and it seems like things are just this slow right now. (Yay cuts to NHS budgets!)

I have no idea what work expects to get out of my medical records. They did mention seeing a fit-for-work specialist (whatever that is), presumably on their dime (I'm certainly not going to pay for one). I'm hoping today's meeting will shed some light on what they're thinking, though frankly my sentiment is growing more and more towards "hey, maybe quitting and having a break of a few weeks wouldn't be such a bad thing...". (Am home again this morning because my legs don't want to stand/walk. Should make getting in for this meeting fun in the afternoon! Not to mention getting home in rush hour afterwards.)
hope you get some answers and are feeling better soon.

Thank you both! Really helps cheer me up a bit - esp your comment SJ, as I hate being ill/whining/burdening people, so even venting on here feels like I'm doing all of the above too much.

Hey no quitting. "Play the system". Normally I am very against this - but - you are being totally genuine. Something is wrong. So play the system ok? If that means you get signed off for a while with pay then that will be fine. If they pay private consultants to get you whizzed through the system that would be great. Whatever, you play the system so that your hard work to be financially secure does not just mean you shrug and walk away because you can. Instead you hang on in there and get things sorted out to you best benefit. (Stern talk).
Unless of course it is all so dire you really cannot face it any more - in which case you need to make sure work really are aware of this and that their pressure is adding to the load you are already under.

I did write a much longer post explaining why I wrote the above - but - just deleted all that - suffice to say I have my reasons for hoping you do not just walk out of the door even though I know you are in position where you can.

  • No don't quit

This is hopefully something you will recover from soon, It was only recently you were running wasn't it?

I imagine (and know somewhat) it is a huge worry when we are unwell, but at least things are in process. I know these days of instant information we are used to rapid processes, but somethings still take time. Their investigations would rule out the most common and easily diagnosed, you clinical examination and symptoms would highlight areas of concern or reassurance. My own experience with neuro was all kinds of worry ( MS, epilepsy, facial neuralgia, facial numbness) turned out to be migraine with syncope... flashing lights terrify me :)

My sister is currently worried about my nephew and is googling all kinds of diagnoses for each result that comes through. I'm telling her that the gastro consultant has been trained to make those results turn to diagnoses. She has a tendancy to over medicalise (? if a word :) ) and works in a pharmacy.

Your current employers will be giving you a reference for a new position, Although I think in law you can't be refused a new position due to sickness record (well you can't in our organisation but they still ask for it! )
