People like me need to know the everyday stuff and put it all together to make the MSE/MFW package. Learning how to put all of the info together is all part of the fun.. Thank you

I'm taking something from everyone on this board.. your recent comment of living on one wage stuck a cord. We did it as newly weds many years ago then struggling a few years ago we almost did it. I'm trying to tweak it a bit, bills and food OH, mortgage me, still not there but maybe in 6 months when a big bill stops :D

Echoing Moneyfordreams - what might be a second nature money saving action to one could be new to someone else :)

Haha! Now you made me look. :p

Total net reduction from September 2015 - March 2016: £24,364.91 :D You weren't far off! (Though that counts the regular payments, not just OPs. And I suppose half of Sept shouldn't count, either. Close enough!)

Thanks for that comment. :) It's very true that you can get stuck in a specific mindset/way of living and not consider other (possibly radical) things if someone doesn't bring it up. :)

Good luck adjusting to single-wage living - it's been quite the mental shift for us, but I'm loving seeing the progress on the mortgage. :D I also take heart in the fact that we could use the second wage if something came up (emergency or opportunity), so that helps me sleep at night.

£43.98 off to the mortgage today - 71p from budget tidying and 43.27 from MB. Still no idea how that happened, this weekend was mostly qualifying bets in preparation for Cheltenham so it should have been £8.66 total, but somehow one bet that should have lost either 47p or 49p actually returned +£34.12! I've run the numbers a few times and still don't get it, but am not complaining. :rotfl: (edit: I looked at the numbers again and think it's due to how the lay side of the bet worked out odds-wise, but that still doesn't account for an extra £35. Happy accident, I suppose!)

    Current mortgage balance: £149,719.08 :)

Have put in the season ticket loan payback to the calculations, and been pessimistic and not counted the resulting rise in take home pay by not having a loan to pay back afterwards. Even with that, which is hopefully unrealistically pessimistic forecast-wise, our end-of-year number is currently at £128,675.88. :D It drops to £127,025.18 if I factor in the lack of loan payments. :j

Oh yes, and I went on a run this morning! Only 0.02 miles shorter than my run on the treadmill earlier in the week, which is pretty good as the treadmill doesn't have wind/cold/terrain, and I was using a new app to track the run and I stopped for a few seconds to try and tweak its settings. :) Back to the treadmill on Tuesday, most likely, as it looks to be cold/wet. Might be able to run outside on Thursday though!

Semi-MSE moment...I've been patting myself on the back for not buying any yarn this year. I've got a lightweight jumper in progress, enough yarn for at least two more jumpers (one planned, one I still need to decide on a pattern). Plus a large (king-sized) blanket I've been working on for over a year.

So..definitely no need for yarn. :o However, one of the online shops had a 50% off deal if you bought 10 balls so (of course) I went on to look. Wasn't super impressed with the yarns on offer, but did find a yarn that I like the look of, and after the discount, I got a sweater's worth of yarn, plus a few spare balls for my blanket so I don't run out, as well as a sweater pattern to make later...all told, £25.40. :j It would have been less (for the cost of the yarn) but shipping is £2.95, and I only needed £2.55 more in my cart for free shipping. Hence buying spare balls for the blanket and a pattern. More stuff for less money, win! (I suppose, technically, it's more stuff for the same money as £2.55 + £0.40 = £2.95. Still, I'd rather pay £2.95 for actual objects rather than delivery fees.)

So, interesting day at work. After mulling things over for a few weeks, I gave my notice today. I expected that to go fine, which it did, but did not expect to get told that they'd pay me my notice period whether I showed up to work or not. That was a bit random, but I guess this can be my last week at work, as I have to tie up some loose ends before I leave. Will confirm tomorrow once HR is in the office.

In other job-related news, I have an interview lined up in a couple of weeks that I'm ridiculously excited about (further cementing my belief that leaving this role is a good move). It's for a non-profit, which is different in the software world, and I think my skills could be a good match. Don't want to be overconfident, though, so will see how it goes. Now that I know I'll be available sooner than I thought, I'll start seriously looking at other roles as well.

Not much to report finance-wise. Looked into the h@lifax account and somehow I deleted a DD so we only have one on the account, which explains why we didn't get the reward this month. Need to see how hard it'd be to move one of our new charity DDs over to that account for next month.

Congrats on the handing in notice. It's a great feeling. New opportunities will just present themselves to you now.
Good luck with the interview. Preparation is key (I'm sure you know) but you cannot prepare enough lol. Very excited for you.

Wow, a choice to work notice or be a lady of leisure (that job hunts ;)) for a few weeks, know what I'd do too :D

Best of luck for the interview. Exciting times :)
