Upto 38Mb/76Mb

  • But some of us nerds need the maximum that's possible just 'because'

    :D

I agree though, the up to 38mbps service is probably more than enough for many average users even if several of them are streaming TV/movies at the same time. That 1.9 mbps upload limit was only fairly recently introduced, I'm pretty sure a few months ago it was the usual up to 38/19mbps service from Plusnet.

    Hi
I'm looking in getting fibre broadband in the next few weeks and will most probably go with 'Plusnet', but I've noticed that they have two speeds to choose from:

    Upto 38Mb

    or

    Upto 76Mb

I would want the faster ofcoarse, but what I want to know (if it's possible) is how will I know if I can get anywhere near 38Mb, because if I can't get near 38, then paying extra for 76Mb is a waste of money.

Or doesn't it work like that?

    Thanks

  • One other question:
At the moment the router is in a spare bedroom.
I have a cable running up the stairs which is connected to the router.
Can this cable be used for the new fibre router, or will I need a different type of cable?

I think it's recommended to have your router as near as possible to the incoming Openreach/Plusnet box ?

Yes that's the usual info re cable .
But its acceptable to move router upstairs etc providing its fed by Cat 5 or better cable .
Problem is that most phone extension cables are just phone not broadband .
