Other posters are quite correct, I forgot about those with poor speeds etc.

I still think capped BB allowances are old fashioned though. Not with BT so can't comment but for TT is it totally unlimited.
  • I'd go through an 6gb cap in a matter of minutes ;)
  • It is not just those on a restricted package with a landline though, what about the people who use a mifi or similar with a 4gb limit who only need to for emails so dont go over their allowance.

Voucherman that article does not state that even if you tick no you do not want it you still have to download it.

It had started to download pre-rollout, not after you selected not to upgrade. So slightly different.

I'm not questioning whether or not MS should be doing this, or whether you are forced to download it against your wishes (I doubt either thought would have occurred to the average user).
My comment was intended to point out that downloads, as you have just mentioned, started for many before July 29th. It was mentioned in the press back then too. Any journalist who has only just discovered this should maybe consider a new career.

firstly was getting, configuring windows updates 100% complete do not turn off computer - this remained for a long tine, so i switched off.

after power up, getting same msg but 35% complete, again didnt seem to be progressing so powered off again..

tried safe mode, now getting currently , failure configuring windows updates, reverting changes, do not turn off your computer.

borrowed daughters hudl to type this...

    help appreciated ta...
  • anyone ? thank~you
  • Why were you switching off when it says "Do not switch off your computer"? It means go away, do something else for a bit.

Of course they shouldn't be doing it.

They are preying on the technically inept to install what is little more than a virus that gathers personal information, browsing habits, advertising info and other commercially useful information about the computer user(s). Which by the way is worth $$$$$$$$.

Yes, the technically advanced members of MSE are able to defeat all the 'apparent' data gathering technology but what about Joe Public who is taken in by the 'free upgrade' to his/her old lagging system?

It's a free upgrade! Is it? Any alarm bells ringing?

MS have gone too far here and anyone who defends their actions obviously hasn't studied the true nature of the packets being sent from their computer to other servers since their 'upgrade'.

The Russians have always been very good at hacking and exploitation and they want W10 banned in Russia.

Upgrade or install at your discretion if you 'think' you know all the facts.
