80% of the cameras within the UK bar a few forces are still wet film as in an old camera. Some gatso cameras have been converted to digital. However the wet films are still maintained by the force usually by a small team. when you know the cost onbthe cameras you would understand why. However the wet film cameras are still very much functionable.

If it was a camera on a high pole with a box in it about the size of a shoe box it will be digital. They are usually downloaded every three days. So I'd expect a nip in the post around Thursday or Friday.

Don't jump the lights? Amber = STOP.
    From the highway code

AMBER means ‘Stop’ at the stop line. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident
Therefore it is an estimate if you have enough time to stop without causing an accident, not if you have enough time to get over before it turns red.

    The OP clearly stated:

RED means ‘Stop’. Wait behind the stop line on the carriageway
  • Hey,

It may just have to be that you wait and see if you get a fine...you may of got lucky depending on the area...but I do know they are getting more and more hot on this now...a few friends in other areas have got fines. I can imagine in London it is even more so.

I'd just sit on edge for a week or so, if you get a fine then kick yourself and learn from it...if not then see it as a friendly warning!!

    Take care.

Did you actually see a camera at the junction? Red light cameras aren't that common in London.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

My point is that they should allow a proper time before making an orange light go into red. They cannot simply make the light go from orange into red within 30msec, while the average in other lights is 2sec. There should be some set time to turn an orange light into red and I guess they violated it by far.

If it was 30msec, the average bulb wouldn't have even lit up in that time. It will have been a lot more than that.

You took a gamble, you lost, now take the consequences (if there are any) and stop on amber in future.

Yes i know the highway code and could have typed the whole life story if you wish, but the "stop if safe to do so" didnt apply to the OP who say they spotted the amber light from a distance and sped up to beat it, so much so they probably broke the speed limit also.

    film? lol lol

You can lol as much as you like but 90% of our cameras in Devon are the wet film type, for 2 years up until recently none of them had film in because the local force could not afford to run them.
