@jem16
Wow, Jem16 - you seem to know how to deal things very well - very impressed!
They did not call today at the appointed time (again) so I guess I will just try to call "cancellations" tomorrow & take it from there.
If I can get a very good deal on the Telephone & BB, i may take that (depending on terms) & just cancel the TV side of things - wish me luck if I get through to someone nice!
I am almost feel like one needs to have either the cunning of a Politician or the mindset of a scoundrel to to be to deal with companies these days - maybe I am just too simple or old fashioned! They are like Rabid Vampires substituting money for blood!

Hi All,
Well, called about cancelling today but just as we were about to proceed, the call got cut off!!
The Lady told me that if I cancel all services that we would lose our telephone number & so will not be able to take it to a new provider - is that true? Just a little worried if that is the case as we really would like to keep it.
She said any cancellation takes place 31 days from today so assuming I can get a better deal afterwards within this period, I take it the number we already have can still be kept?
Sorry to be a dunce but that really caught me off guard!

Yes if you cancel your phone line you will probably lose your number. You will also most likely have to pay a £30 cease charge. If you transfer to a new provider rather than cancel, then this doesn't apply.0

Hi,
Thanks for that - so I have to:
a) probably get a new provider within 31 days to keep the number?
b) Stay with Sky by calling them & accepting any improved offer after any possible cancellation to keep the number? So, after cancelling the whole package, I still have 31 days to accept a new deal before they terminate permanently?
How then, may I ask are people able to get discounts on the Telephone/BB/Line Rental if one only cancels the TV package? Sky will know you have kept it & have no incentive to discount at all unless I am missing something - sorry to be really thick!
Many Thanks

Yes it's true which is why I told you in Post 8 just to cancel the TV part and then renegotiate the BB/Phone once you had got an offer for the TV. You should also look for alternative prices for BB/Phone to negotiate with. For example SSE is offering free BB and Line rental for £12pm.0 -

Hi jem16,
Yes you did - my apologies - I just got stumped by her when she asked the question as was on hold for ages & brain fatigue set in! I kinda of got caught up in not answering questions & saying, just please cancel!
I will call them again later when I get chance - sorry for being thick - I apologise but I think my error might be in assuming that when people say they cancel Sky on order to get the best deals across all services - I assumed they meant their entire account & not just the TV part (because they had stated they got 60% off everything) - I thought it was done all together & did not realise one has to deal with two different departments!
Many Kind & Sincere Thanks!

I am going to cancel my tv on Sunday, then will negotiate bb/phone in a couple of weeks' time (possibly later, as I have free line rental until mid October).0

The TV and BB/Phone are regarded as two separate entities as far as contracts are concerned. They can be treated together but as dates are often different it's easier to think of them separately.0 -
Hi
Well, was able to cancel just the "Sky TV" aspect of things via Live Chat a little while ago & was surprisingly straight forward. Have kept the Phone/BB/LR & git that confirmed 3 times just to be sure!
If we gets great deal on the TV side then wonderful but if not, my Mum;s religious channels are free anyway on Freesat & we may have to dow without the Zee TV stuff but I guess those in the house that watch it can watch them fro free on Youtube or similar!
Will wait now & see what happens - hopefully will get offer letters etc - thanks incredibly for all the help & will keep things updated!

Do you have access to My Sky? if you do check there as that is where they will put any offer in the first instance.
Also make sure your contact preferences are set to allow contact from Sky with offers.
You will probably get a phone call from outbound retentions in the next few days. They will be phoning to enquire why you have cancelled - just tell them that you are finding it too expensive now and have to cut back. They should then make some offers.0
