So all of a sudden it's the end of the month. I'm not quite sure where the weeks have gone although I'm glad pay day has arrived.

Mortgage wise I've only managed to overpay £30 this month as we have spent a huge amount on diy supplies, it's actually amazing how much we have managed to do when we have only been in this house for 3 months (today in fact). The downside is that we are living in constant dust but I'm trying to be a bit more chilled about that- it's not easy though.

Still plodding on. Plans in at the moment for the main work so that will involve lots more dust, just got to keep the bigger picture in mind, this is our forever house and therefore we want to do things properly which will mean it takes longer.

The last day of the month and I'm not going to be able to make another overpayment this month. I've just worked out we've paid over £700 on building supplies this month though out of our normal pay. We have savings set aside for the building work but it's my mission to try and fund as much as I can out of our day to day money to hopefully stop me frittering. By doing it this way I know that the overpayments will be lower but I'm hoping our savings will cover the extension costs.

We've only been in the house 3 months so have lots of time to start hammering the overpayments.

Taken the bull by the horn so to speak and made an overpayment of £120 today. That makes a total of £300 since we moved in at the start of October. I know that's not a lot considering the amount it seems that some people pay but I'm pleased with it. I think if we just keep chipping away at it we will get there in the end.

just worked out how much interest we are paying each day, it has now dropped from £9.60 per day to £9.54..... Slowly but surely.

Wow, can't believe it's been over 2 months since I last posted. Didnt manage an overpayment in March as had a really expensive month for building supplies but again this came out of wages rather than savings - although we did have to use savings for building regs of over £600!!! Seems like a huge amount of money for a few visits.

I'm inspired now to at least pay £20 this month towards the overpayment. It's not a lot but it's a start. Can't believe we've been here for nearly 6 months but when I look round the house we've actually done so much in that time. Still love living here, going from 7 years left on old mortgage to a new 25 year one was definitely the right decision even if it felt scary at the time. I walk past our old house frequently and although I miss our lovely neighbours the area really is going further downhill.

Hmmm just logged straight on to online banking and made an overpayment of £50, so much for planning to do £20! Better have a cheap rest of the month then .....

Oh my goodness. Just having a look at my old posts and came across this!
I'm sad to say the overpayments only totalled to £350 last year but we did spend £4000 from wages on building supplies (as well as £19k) from old house equity!!!!
I'm hoping to just chip away a bit this year but it won't be a lot each month as the building project is still ongoing. Each time I get a little disheartened at living in a building site I have s little think about how much we have done in the past 14 months
