Time is creeping onwards. Only 6 more sleeps until we move into our new home and can start tackling the mortgage. It has been quite strange not having a mortgage for the past month but it has meant we have saved what we would usually pay on mortgage and bilks and can use that as an overpayment.
I need to check how we can overpay with nationwide, not sure if we can just pay bits here and there which is what I would prefer or if it needs to be added onto our monthly payment. I know our limit is 10% per year.
Onwards and upwards, 6 more sleeps.....Determined to save and not squander!

Thank you all for your good wishes. We are in and I'm so happy in our new home. We are surrounded by boxes but I feel completely content and very happy, normally chaos like this would stress me out totally but I'm so excited that I'm actually really relaxed about it.
Just waiting for the letter from Nationwide to let me know how much and when the first mortgage payment will be.Determined to save and not squander!

So. We are a few days into settling into our new home and still in love with living here. I'm so happy and have enjoyed exploring and finding out things (good and bad!) about our house. I've had this week off so have been able to do lots of unpacking, it's been nice rediscovering our possessions after they have been in storage.
I'm still waiting for some communication from nationwide regarding the mortgage, I'd quite like to know when and exactly how much our regular payments will be so I can start to plan.Determined to save and not squander!

Still nothing from nationwide. Will give them a call today.
It's quite strange being in a new house and not really being certain what our bills will be. Switched energy supplier within the first few days as sse cheekily put us on their most expensive standard tariff, I expect a lot of people get caught out by that one as there is so much to think about. Set up a direct debit for water yesterday but no idea how much that will be as now on a water meter.
Have been starting to think about what we want to do to the house. Have identified two priorities, one of which is a new front door which will be expensive but should affect the heating bills as the old one is quite draughty. We've made the decision that we are going to take our time and do things properly, even if that makes jobs more expensive as this really is our forever home. I would rather wait and save first.Determined to save and not squander!

Eventually had some contact from nationwide and our first mortgage payment will only be £30 higher than normal as they released funds on the 29th October. At least I know where I stand with that one. Have registered for online access to our mortgage account and now just waiting for the login details to come through the post and then the overpayments can start.
Planning on ordering our new front door tomorrow which is very exciting as it's the first big change we are making.Determined to save and not squander!
