  • Well the big move out day is here. Most of our stuff has already gone, just the last few bits to move and then the cleaning starts. I've been awake thinking since 4.30- it's going to be a long day!

  • Just wanted to pop in say Hi and good luck with the house move - we have done exactly the same as you. It'll be worth it I promise.

Hope you are now surrounded by boxes a takeaway and a large glass of something nice!

  • Best advice I can give is turn your back garden into a farm and don't spend any money on your grocery bills apart from staples foods like Pasta & Rice.

Need milk? Get a pet Goat lol!
  • Thanks all. We did it. Moved out, cleaned from top to bottom and now staying with relatives for 5 weeks before moving into our new home. It was very sad saying goodbye to our house, we all cried as there were so many memories attached to the house. Popped back to see our old neighbours at the weekend and it seems as though the new people aren't making themselves very popular.

Counting down the sleeps until the move into our new home, 32 to go.

Predicted utopia date 2021 15 years early
    Current mortgage £52,928

    2016 Over-payments to date: £5000 :j
    Total OPs since starting £79,806
  • 30 days to go before we get the keys to the new house- I'm counting!!

It was a lovely sight to see our mortgage balance at £0.00 on our old house just before they closed the account, I'm squirrelling away all spare cash into savings accounts for overpayments when we start the new mortgage, although it's wierd not having our own house at rtf moment it is nice not having a mortgage to pay for those 5 weeks.

Still staying with relatives and still waiting for the day when we get the keys to the new house. Only 25 more nights to go!

Received a copy of the completion statement from the solicitor today which was quite exciting, especially as we are keeping some of the equity back from the sale of our old house to extend the new one to make it our forever house. even though I had been quite conservative with cost estimates it appears that we have more than I thought we would so I'm very pleased. The quicker we move in the quicker we can start overpaying.

I had a play with some mortgage calculators the other day and it's really inspiring to see the difference s little overpayment can make.

Still hanging on in at the relatives. Feel like we've hit a milestone today though. 18 nights done and 18 to go. Visited grand designs live yesterday and we are now itching to move in and start decorating!
