Just made our first overpayment, only £10 but I wanted to check that I've entered all the numbers correctly on the internet banking first! Feels good to be on the way.
Lots of work to do on the house which we need to balance with the desire to overpay. Ideally I'd pay a larger chunk off each month but we need to be mindful that we are going to need some of that spare cash to do the renovations.
As long as the transfer goes ok then I might try and do another £40 this month to make a total of £50 and then see how we go next month.Determined to save and not squander!

Hi Sedge123 thought I would pop in and say hi.
We are the same lots of work to do but we really want to over pay as well. Think we might need to do a full rewire of the house, need to have a good long think about it as it will cost £££ but once it's done it's done, we could maybe get away with adding a few sockets but I think we would only get a couple years down the line and need to rewire. Best to do it before we put in new flooring kitchen etc.
How exciting you made your first overpayment, I can't wait to transfer ours though we are thinking of waiting till the 1st January, new year, new starts and all the jazz :rotfl:0 -
Hope you are settling in to your forever home Sedge123. Good luck on your journey. I'll follow and cheer you on!

Been chatting and drawing up plans for renovations and possible extensions, it's scary how much this all might cost. We have some money kept back from the sale of our old house but I'm not sure if if will be enough. Need to get some quotes from builders which is a scary thought, I'm worried they will just laugh at our budget!!
I'm torn between the desire to overpay and the pull of trying to save into the renovation funds. For this reason I haven't made any more overpayments as yet- even though I'm desperate to! Decisions decisions...,,,,Determined to save and not squander!

Just made another small overpayment for November, that makes a £50 total for November. Not a massive among but considering it's only month one of our mortgage in the new house in quite pleased we've managed anything as we have had an expensive past few weeks buying bits and bobs for the house.
I'm hoping we can do at least another £50 in December and then we can ramp up to £100 from January. Onwards and upwards, exciting times. I'm itching to start redecorating and stripping wallpaper but am having to seriously restrain myself as we have decided to do things properly and not rush into everything.Determined to save and not squander!

So my overpayment I made on Monday night still hasn't hit the mortgage account at nationwide. The first test payment I made last month hit the account the day after. Now I'm starting to worry a little. Will check again in the morning and if it's still not arrived then I will have to phone them.Determined to save and not squander!

I'm not quite sure where the time is going to at the moment. How can it be 8 days since my last post!
The overpayment did credit the day after so panic over. I'm not sure I will manage another overpayment this month as things are very tight with Xmas and also doing some essential work on the house. I might try for just £10 to at least keep up the momentum.Determined to save and not squander!

So I've had a play with the numbers and after getting a little unexpected pay I am going to overpay another £100 this month. Ideally I would like to aim for at least £200 per month but given that it's December and we have only been in our new house less than 2 months I'm cutting myself a bit of slack. There have been quite a few unexpected payments but also generous parents have helped us out by offering to pay for certain items.
So I'm now looking forward to 2016, we have loads of work to do to the house to turn it from an 80's palace into the home we want it to be. We have some money set aside from the sale of our old house to do this work- I just hope it's enough. My other main priority is to crack on with the overpayments.
Does anyone else manage the finances on their own? My hubby is fab but is totally happy to let me sort everything financially. He just carries on as usual unless I tell him we are a bit tight on money. He doesn't have a clue how to even access our online banking. I don't mind as I'm naturally a person that likes to organise and be in control. Determined to save and not squander!

So Christmas and new year are just memories and I'm busy trying to find homes for all the gifts we have been given.
Back on to house mode again, a couple of largish important jobs have been ticked off the list and I'm finally starting the first room wallpaper stripping tomorrow! It's very exciting. Not made an overpayment yet this month as waiting to see how finances go in a couple of weeks as we are having to order lots of diy supplies at the moment which I'm trying to do from our day to day monies and not dip into our house renovation savings as that will be needed for the main extension work.
Just worked out today that we are currently paying £9.60 per day in interest on our mortgage, that's quite motivating me to overpay and start chipping away at this figure!Determined to save and not squander!

Hi
My husband is similar, he's supportive and does what I ask him to re financial stuff (most of the time). Sometimes he even asks questions about it, but not often!
Good luck with the decorating and renovations
