  • Oh, me too... my chap and I spent an hour at Keswick market in September, just tasting samples and choosing a few (I mean a lot). We also have an indie cheese shop where I live... dangerous for the bank balance, but soooo tasty!:D

I stay in Cartmel a lot, n the cheese shop is to die for, just don't ever go in with a hangover, as the smell will knock you out :rotfl:

  • Ok, I really need to rejoin and actually keep up with posting! I did try and rejoin a couple of months ago but just got totally side-tracked.

I'm on maternity leave so would really like to keep the budget tight over the next year. I'm currently one day overdue so could pop at any time, but I've spent a wee bit extra in November and stocked the freezer with loads of home cooked meals so hopefully December should actually be quite a cheap month.

With that in mind I'm going to set the budget as follows (for two adults and one cat):

    Food - £100
    Toiletries/household - £15
    Cat food/litter - £10
Christmas treats - £20 (we'll be going to family for the main meal so this is just cheese, sweet treats etc)

But there is a bit of flexibility to move money from one pot to another.

From next month I'll set a budget for nappies/wipes too but not sure how much that'll be yet. I'm hoping to breastfeed so will save money on formula, but if that doesn't work it'll be included in the budget too.

Doesn't include alcohol (just for DH atm) or for rare eating out excursions as we both have some spending money budgeted too.

I may take a few days from posting if I go into labour but I'll keep all our receipts to keep on track ;) good luck for December everyone!

Hi all, hope everyone's grocery challenge is going swimmingly.

We had a small spend today of £7.06 due to my forgetting to defrost some pastry, Mr Maity needed soft drinks for his packed lunch and I needed some chocolate as well as picking up a reduced sandwich for my packed lunch tomorrow.

This takes our spends so far to £34.81 out of £250. I'm hoping to have the rest of the week as NSD's before the weekend's Christmas preparations!
