Why can I taste soap in my food?

This has been going on with me for ages and I can't seem to find a definitive answer.
When I'm eating my dinner, I can taste soap. I have tried extra rinse cycle in dishwasher, washing silicone utensils in the sink only etc etc, but it still happens.
This hasn't just happened in this house, it also happened in my previous house. Our dishwasher is regularly cleaned including filter and arms etc.
I don't taste it when I go to my MIL's house, and she uses her dishwasher too, so what am I doing wrong?

Is it every meal, or only certain meals? Could it be the baking tray, frying pan, etc. instead of the dinnerware?
Or being really out-there, could it be an ingredient in your food? Have you bought a new seasoning you've been using a lot? Some people have an odd genetic quirk where coriander can taste soapy if they have a certain gene!0 -

Most meals, whether I cook in a frying pan or saucepan. I had to throw soup away the other day because it tasted so strongly of soap. I've narrowed it down to either my silicone utensils or my pans - but the question is WHY would they hold the taste? And why don't I taste it at MILs?
I've tried washing my utensils in bicarb of soda and vinegar in case they are 'holding' the scent, but that has made no difference?
Definitely not coriander as I LOVE that and it can be in any meals i.e. soup/chicken/stir fry etc.
I feel very weird - surely someone else has had this problem?! :rotfl:

Might be an answer here.

Can you get someone else to try your soapy food to see if it's soapy to them?
I've only had one soapy mouth experience and it was eating a pesto, although my boyfriend and then housemate said it tasted perfectly fine! For me it was how I imagined Fairy Liquid to taste. Gag.0 -
If you google "soapy taste silicone", there seems to be quite a few posts about it. I did stop using a silicone cake tray I had, because the cakes had a funny taste to them.
Maybe try the same pan but use a wooden spoon or other utensil to stir, and see if you have the funny taste or not.0 -

OH often says I am 'imagining' it, but tonight he did say he could taste it too, albeit more mildly than me.
It definitely is a taste from the dishwasher, I just can't understand why my pans are holding the taste. Tonight's dinner, for example, was cooked in a pan (which had been cleaned in the dishwasher), but using utensils that had been hand-washed only??
The fluoride poisoning sounds very scary but relatively unlikely - as surely this would mean ALL food I ate would taste of soap?

Were they silicone utensils?0 -
Have you tried handwashing the pans and utensils and seeing if you still get the test? To rule out it being the silicone (regardless of washing method)?0

Yes, silicone, but I have washed thoroughly in bicarb of soda etc, and hand wash only in minimal detergent.Have you tried handwashing the pans and utensils and seeing if you still get the test? To rule out it being the silicone (regardless of washing method)?
Yep, and still get the taste. It's like the taste is ingrained somewhere - I am worried it is in the pans - the utensils I can chuck, but my pans cost a fortune
