MSE BIG SWITCH advice

Hi
I have an economy 7 meter. Will switching to the MSE Big Switch with Eon still allow me to be on an economy 7 tariff?
Thanks
Hi Parx and welcome to the Forums.
As molerat says, customers with Economy 7 meters can go on to the MSE Collective tariff. You'll need to choose this option when applying.
Just a quick heads up. Economy 7 prices have higher day rates and cheaper off peak night rates. To benefit, you need to use a significant amount of electricity during the off peak times. The actual amount depends on the region and unit prices (daily standing charges are the same).
Generally, Economy 7 meters tend to be cost effective at all electric properties with storage heaters. This isn't set in stone, though, as individual properties differ so much. If it turns out you don't use enough electricity during the off peak hours, you can go on a single rate version of the tariff. No need to change the meter. We add the day and night usage together and charge at the lower single rate price.
Sorry if you already know this and I'm trying to teach you how to suck eggs Parx but hope it helps.

We just switched to the E.on collective switch tariff - but we don't seem to have received any sort of confirmation email that things are in progress. This is weird, as normally MSE takes any opportunity to bombard my inbox!
Is this normal? I'm left wondering if anything has happened at all!
EDIT: The email arrived a little later0 -
I have an Economy 7 meter, & have just swapped to E.on via the Collective Switch. Having read the details about changing a One Reading Account, instead of actually changing meters, I have looked at my readings over the last 12 months, and think I am only using the night rate for 30% of my Electric. Does this indicate I may be better of switching OFF the Economy 7?0

You need to put your figures into one of the comparison sites using both your day / night reads and again adding the 2 together and see what it shows. The problem is that now you have selected E7 as your tariff you will not be able to switch to a standard tariff on the current deal.0

Morning K10
To benefit from off peak rates on Economy 7 meters, you need to use a significant amount of electricity during the cheaper night hours. The actual amount, though, depends on the region and unit prices. I'd take molerat's sound advice (thanks molerat) and pop your usage in kWh on to the independent comparison sites. If you look at both the single rate and Economy 7 options, you'll see a good indication of whether or not you'll benefit from a single rate.
As I posted above in reply to Parx, if a customer wants to go from Economy 7 to single rate, we don't need to change the meter. We just add the day and night usage together and charge at one rate.
Molerat also makes a good point about doing this on the MSE Collective Tariff now it's no longer available. As you've signed up to this tariff, though, you're already registered so it's still possible but will need to be done by a particular advisor. Given the restricted nature of collective tariffs, they're looked after by a specialist area. If you do decide a change to the single rate version will be better, drop an email to the address in my Profile. I'll be happy to sort this.
Hope this helps K10.

Hi Malc
Great to hear that E.ON are allowing the flexibility to choose Economy7 or not. It's worrying that other suppliers dealing with national infrastructure are somewhy unable to add 2 numbers together
I'm a spreadsheet geek so more than happy to do my own trade-off calculation, but I can't find the daily standing charge and kWh charges for E7 and single rate. I'm aware these vary by region. Can you point me to them? I'm in region 10-Eastern but I guess forumites elsewhere might also be interested.

Hi larchard,
I hope you don't mind me, Malc is on his holiday's!
You can go through the quote tool online and you'll see the unit prices and standing charge there. But this is only going to work for the type of meter you actually have.
Therefore, it may be easier to speak to us, as you'd like to compare the two, we can give you the figures and you can then pop them on your spreadsheetand decide from there.
It will be the sales guys you need, I can point you in their direction of you need me to.
Thank you

Thanks Helena
Remember to get your holiday booking form in before Malc for next year's switch
I've been through the online tool but the MSE special isn't there. (I took comparable E7 & single rates, guessing the ratio will be about the same, to feed my spreadsheet addiction.)
What's the best contact method to get the sales guys who know the MSE figures? Feel free to forward this by email if that's best.

Thanks for the extra info, right then, we (sales) won't have the MSE collective unit rates, as it's something that would have been done via the cheap energy club. As this has also now finished I think we're going to struggle as you can't go on that tariff now.
What we can do, is quote you on any tariff's we have available directly with us for one rate and E7, other tariff's like the collective ones would have to be done by yourself via the third party website.
The other thing you could do, is to pop your usage in to a comparison site and see what's best for you.
I hope this helps a bit.
